The top of the feeder can be unscrewed from the base for easy cleaning. Make sure to wash your feeder out when replacing nectar. Nectar should be replaced every 2-3 days, depending on location, to prevent the nectar from going bad. A great nectar recipe can be made at home by using one part sugar, to four parts water. Place the sugar water in a pan, brought to enough heat to dissolve the sugar. Stir well until the mixture is completely liquid. Remove from heat and let cool down to room temperature before adding mixture to your hummingbird feeder.
