Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Chain Saw CCS818

This chain saw is only intended for small jobs. It does not hold a charge for an extended period of time and is limited in its usefulness based on its size.

This saw struggled to cut cleanly through even half inch branches on a hedge. Package did not contain an alun key so more expense and a trip to the local hardware store.

I just purchased this today and used it to cut down a lilac bush -- about 12 feet tall with branches up to 4 inches thick. I did it with only one battery charge, with juice to spare. I have a Black and Decker 18 volt drill (came with two batteries) and a Black and Decker 18 volt weed trimmer (came with one battery). Now I have four batteries. I like this tool because it uses the same battery as my other devices, so I always have at least two charged up. The saw was easy to assemble - only took about 15 minutes. It is easy to use and cuts pretty well. I think if you were cutting many branches greater than 4 inches fairly often you might want a gas chain saw. But for most average homeowners this saw would be just fine.

I checked out this item online on the Walmart website. Under the heading ITEM DESCRIPTION it says that " This Black & Decker electric chain saw contains an onboard oiling feature and has a transparent window to view oil level." Since my other chain saws have automatic oiling system with a transparent window to view oil level I thought that this was the same. What it actually is is a simitransparent plastic bottle for oil that is attached to the plastic bar cover that you can pull out and squirt oil on the chain as needed. No mention or picture of this oiling with a bottle is on the box. I have not used the saw yet but without any other surprises it should do what I want to do. I have a Black & Decker weed eater that uses the same battery and it works very well for small jobs, I now have three batteries so I can extend the work time.

I was skeptical when i got it. now im impressed, glad i didnt buy a gas powered chain saw. its perfect for small jobs, its small, light weight and very powerful for what you get. like i said im very impressed. dont think you can cut and cut, the battery needs to be rechared after about 30 minutes of use. kinda like me, im old and my battery needs charged alot to, no big deal. get it you wont be sorry, i promise.
