Black & Decker 5.5-Amp Electric Grass Hog String Trimmer

I couldn't have made a better choice. I read all of the other reviews and they were true. This is lightweight, easy to use (I'm a woman, not a young woman..lol) made very well, durable. It was also easy for me to reload the string. I have finally been able to trim all around the house with it, sidewalks and driveway and my yard looks fantastic. I am very pleased with this product. Black & Decker has not disappointed me yet!!

Pros: I'm 6'1" tall, and the handle can be extended too long for me to comfortably use it. That was a pleasant surprise. The trimmer is powerful and works smoothly. I didn't notice significant vibration. The spool is extremely easy to take out or put in, and no tools are required. Con: It uses far more string than my previous trimmer, which was less powerful but used the same .065" string. Just about all of my trimming is up against concrete--house foundation, sidewalk, driveway, curb--approximately 400' of trimming altogether, which the manual says will cause higher string usage. I used the entire spool of string and ran out right at the end of the job. String feed is entirely automatic, and the manual doesn't say how the trimmer "senses" string wear. So, string usage may decrease as I gain experience with the trimmer. There's an extendable wire guard that may be useful when trimming against concrete, but I haven't mastered the use of the guard yet, and it seemed to interfere with my trimming when I tried it briefly. That, too, may decrease string usage. I can't comment on the noise level, since I wear ear protection.

I was sick and tired of mixing gas/oil for my previous trimmer and decided to go with a corded version. If you don't mind using a cord (I use a 100 footer), this model has more than adequate power.

for the price, which after purchasing online, was even less at checkout (I love WalMart) this is a great yardwork addition....quiet, tons of power, and ultra light...it will take me a while to get used to the cutting angles...much diff than my 20 yr old one..
