[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So glad I bought this Soundlink. It's turned out to be ideal for my 2 year old Bose Wave 4. I have loved my Bose wave music system since I bought it but love it even more now. Paired up very quickly to my ipad and my PC. Looks great sitting on top of my Bose Wave System, as if they were made for each other. Amazon music and radio stations sound really good through this little gadget. I've other Bose products and have become a big fan of Bose over the past 4 years. Thank you Bose for another great product.
First of all let me say I am a big Bose fan and have a number of products, from headphones(QC35), soundlink mini, speakers and an old Wave radio/cd player. I love the sound and the ease of use on Bose units, but it was mainly for the Wave system that I was excited to use this. The Wave is great and still going strong after 8 or so years, but with the addition of the sound touch, I could bring it up to date and use it as a streamer and access my music on NAS, internet radio, and streaming services like Apple Music and Amazon music to which I subscribe. Out of the box, the unit is sleek, but feels well made and heavier than I first thought looking at it. One of the first things that appealed to me was the connections available, one of which was was RCA and this is what I used to connect to the Wave system. I immediately set up to stream using Bluetooth, and this was very simple and very quick to do using my iPhone. I started with Tori Amos "Winter" and once the volume was cranked up on the Wave, the results were very good indeed. Tori' voice sounded brilliant. Highs were high and lows were low and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and other tracks which ranged from female vocals to some good hard rock. The connection was always stable and the sound was CD quality. Very impressed! From there however, my impressions took a little bit of a dive. I then tried to connect to the internet, and after downloading the app, had to try four or five times, using the help "wizard" and in the end, powering down and back up on the unit and again retrying through the "wizard", before it eventually connected. Hmmmm. I then decided to use the internet radio connection on the app and connected to several local and national stations easily and the sound quality was still very good, taking into consideration the difference in streaming bit rates of the stations. Result again for my Wave system. Then I tried connecting to Amazon music through the app only to be greeted with"this service is not yet available in your area" message. Now come on Bose, this is one of the biggest streaming services out there, please update your app to allow this! I was however able to connect to Apple Music easily enough, and again was very pleased with the sound. Connecting to my NAS drive was, however, another matter. The sound touch searched and searched to no avail. I updated software on it and also on my WD Mycloud mirror and tried again. No luck. I then went in my lounge to my main system and tried to connect to the NAS via my Bluray player, connected first time. Then tried connecting via my Cyrus streamer and again connected first time so I think there may be a compatibility issue there and I,m not going to buy another NAS. Anyway, I could connect using Bluetooth and a third party app although I would have liked to hear the tracks directly using the flack ripped versions to assess there sound quality, but at least I now have my music library available in my bedroom and am still happy with the sound quality overall. Would I recommend this purchase, definitely. Are there things that can improve with the unit, absolutely. The layout of the app is a bit fiddly and unintuitive. More streaming services should be available(Amazon). And if I could just get access to my NAS via wifi it would be a brilliant little unit.
Purchased the link adapter about six months ago. It struggles very bad with software. Try to repeat one song. You loose the link. It almost does whatever the software wants. If the computer turns in idle mode you lost the device forever gone. Reboot, Retry, Replay and nothing works. I have graciously give BOSE one star on this review. I am looking forward to change that with future software re-designs. I promise to comeback and change this review. BOSE please learn from Marantz software. Seriously. You look on your network, and click on the Marantz device name and suddenly the whole software develops in front of you. You can replay, restart, control the volume or the sound you name it. A full site build into the device. You do not even need to download anything, absolutely nothing.
Can hardly get it to work and only works very spotty. Instructions are very sub-par, both online and the instructions provided. A very frustrating experience. Not happy with Bose on this one.
After studying the market to replace my airplay devices this looked ideal. BOSE quality, easy to use and set up. This is a definite option if you are looking to move to sonos. In my opinion better as you can purchase a couple of these for the same price as one sonos! Could just do with Apple Music and it's a sonos killer!
