I have had this smoker for about 3 months. I smoke with it on average 2 times a week with each cook lasting 6-12 hours. The big complaint would be the rust. The firebox is rusted on the outside and inside ( it was seasoned prior to use). Overall it maintains temp as was could be expected. With a few modifications you can make it perform better. I would probably consider buying another one if I needed one.
My wife bought one of these for me a couple of years ago and I have used it for smoking and grilling. I smoke 12-14 lb. briskets for 24 hours and the temp is fairly easy to control throughout the cooking time. Only complaint is the 3 grates do not quite fit the lips in the middle of the unit and sometime fall through. I put foil on them to keep them stationary. Bought a new one a couple of weeks ago and do not have the grate issue (yet). Awesome product.
July 12, 2008 took smoker out of the box and assembled it in an hour. Fired it up and let cool down. That evening I smoked 1 oven stuffer, 6 pork chops, 2 lbs of home made sausage links. The coals were still hot so I decided to smoke some peaches and other fruits. Most fun I had smoking in a long time. I must say the money was well spent. Over the next 2 days I have smoked more susage, cooked steaks, and more fruit.
the way this smoker is set up you can grill,smoke anything from meats, veggies to cheese. you can cold smoke cheese in this smoker without the cheese melting, for a wonderful smoked cheddar cheese or what ever you like.we are in need of a second one to cook more....
My wife and I are only weekend BBQers, but love love love this product. I read that other reviewers have had a problem with the thermometer, and we have not to date, but I have to also say that up until having this grill we have never had nor have we ever used a thermometer, and for many this is not as big of an issue as some have made it out to be. The only complaint I have is that I dont find enough time to use this product!!!
