[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this pitcher filter for several years. I used to keep it in the refrigerator where it would get shoved to the back and I'd forget about it. When I started leaving out on the countertop, I started using it more. I fill it in the morning and use it to fill the electric kettle to make hot water for cold brew coffee. Before it gets too hot in the kettle, I use some to reconstitute the dehydrated Honest Kitchen dog food for two dogs. Then I use the rest throughout the day for refilling the dogs' water bowls, and for cooking and drinks. I've been happy with using this filter, but an Australian friend came to visit and complained that my water tastes like sulphur, even after filtering it. So I'm trying the Longlast Filter for the first time today to see if the water tastes any different.
We had the old style pitcher. We broke it so had to replace it. All we could get is the current pitcher. The pitcher is OK except for the top, which is incompetent. It does not stay on. The electronic thing is a farce. We remove the top to add water. We do not pour it through the large hole. The electronic thing does not know what to do with that. But that is trivial. I would not expect it to work well anyway. What is terrible about this pitcher is that the top keeps on falling off when we pour. Didn't anyone supervise the design? Did anyone test it? What was wrong with the old design other than it wasn't chic? It worked quite nicely and it didn't have that idiotic red light blinking at me every time I pour. The old one was good. Why did you change it? You know the saying: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The main reason I have a Brita pitcher in my apartment is because the water pipes in the building are over 40 years old. There is a bad taste to the water, which no one will take care of, so I use the Brita pitcher to help me drink the water which is better.
We rely on the green light of our Brita on-tap filter to remind us to change our filter. Being on a dug-well requires particular vigilance, especially after Walkerton Ontario contamination. Our primary filter is ultraviolet filtration; however, we like the reassurance of purity at the tap. Brita helps with this. We have our water municipally tested regularly, with and without the Brita filter in place. A red light suggests possible tap contamination; after changing the filter, if the light is still red, we have to check for contamination at the source. Either our well or something in between it and our tap is not right. Our Brita filter helps us moniter this crucial resource: water. Thanks for the opportunity to give this feedback. Any suggestions are welcome.
I don't know why a basic jug needs to have so many crannies and nooks. The newer design lends itself to overflowing water into the handle. The overflow leaks into the refrigerator. The curves of the lid make it less efficient in filling- creating the need to stop and wait for the filter to continue filling. The upper compartment should be more concerned with utility and less with design. IMHO
