This unit was recommended by a big box store. I bought and it sat in the garage while the kitchen was remodeled. Once the unit was installed the lights worked for about 1 month. Now neither light works. This unit was cheap and its a same that the lights aren't working.
I had this unit professionally installed as part of a complete kitchen remodel. On the FIRST DAY - one of the lights went out. Now less than 1 week later the second light went out. I found this site and read these consistently poor reviews about this unit... specifically the lights. My kitchen designer is contacting the rep for Broan about it - and I will be calling your technical team. I pray you've figured out a solution and hope you've created a kit to switch to LED (get the halogen out of here!).
Bought this a few weeks ago after our insert broke - discovered the builder used a custom company that went out of business so it was a challenge finding something that should work. Found this insert and the matching liner and both installed seamlessly! Looks and functions beautifully! Fan is a little loud, but it also has some great suction to remove smoke and steam. It's not unreasonable at all for a high powered vent.
Buttons were missing, switch was broken and needed light fuse at installation so had to reorder all products. A headache from the start and we haven't even used it yet!
My Broan PM500 is less than 2 years old and I need to replace the lamp. The lamp does not simply screw nor pop out. You have to take apart the lamp to get to the bulb, and this is not intuitive. There is not documentation provided by Brian that shows the specific steps. Getting to the lamp requires removing a very thin piece of glass that is very fragile. Brian should redesign it.
