Brother JX2517 17-Stitch Sewing Machine

So, I had wanted a sewing machine for awhile but didn't want to fork over a lot of money since I wasn't sure how much I would actually use it. I saw this on the BF special and decided that for 49.99, why not. I read other reviews on it and it seemed like a great purchase so I took the plunge. I LOVE IT! Not only is it freaking adorable, it's light weight but sturdy. For a first timer, I had this machine set up within 20 minutes after watching a few YouTube videos. It's very easy to use and I cannot wait to unlock my inner creativity with this! Definitely happy with my purchase.

This sewing machine is great. It has different variations of stitches to use for multiple purposes. The fabric glides smoothly across for good even stitching. It is very easy to thread by just looking at the instructions. I haven't touched a sewing machine in years and I am by no means an expert sewer, but my projects so far have been decent using this machine. I really like that the plate on the bottom is see through to tell when I'm almost out of bobbin thread. It also has a little space for storage to have on hand. I also like how easily I access the thread cutter on the left side of the sewing machine (slide the threads to cut and keep on moving to the next stitch). It doesn't weight much so I can move it easily wherever I want to work. I haven't yet used all the features but the ones that I have, I can say have made me very satisfied.

I bought this machine to replace a top-of-the-line Singer portable that I bought around 1980 when I used to make a lot of my own clothes. Now, that old machine is too heavy to carry and too complicated to use, but I still like to have a sewing machine to do clothing alterations and other small sewing tasks. The Brother 17 Stitch Sewing Machine fits my needs beautifully. it's very lightweight and so easy to use. I've had and used this machine for a month now. After using this machine for an altering project, I donated my old machine to one of my favorite charities. I'm very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this product for functionality and value.

I have owned this sewing machine for a couple of months now. For someone who is just getting started with no sewing experience whatsoever, it is a good machine for a great price. I have made a few baby bibs and burp cloths with this sewing machine using quilting cotton, minky and terry cloth, and it worked great for those projects. The instruction manual is easy to understand. It also comes with an instructional DVD which I have yet to watch.

I bought a similar brother sewing machine 3 years ago, used it a lot and was completely satisfied with it. Therefore I decided to buy this product, which is a complete disappointment. The needle holder is too long, when guiding the material it hits the guiding finger forcefully, the stich length is not uniform throughout the process, the machine is noisy, and it is difficult to feed thicker material under the foot. In short: would not have the machine bought, if seen before.
