Burt's Bees Sun Protecting SPF 8 Lip Balm with Passion Fruit

I used this for the first time when visiting London, England last month. With unusually sunny weather for 10 days (thanks to the volcano?), this lip balm saved not only my lips but my face as well (as an emergency face sunscreen). The smell took some getting use to, but now I actually Like it. I didn't notice any White Effect. Being allergic to ALL chemical sunscreens, this is a god-send. I spend my summers on the water or in the garden and winters in the snow - this will never be out of my pocket!

At first glance, this lip balm looks pretty cool. Once I started to use it, however, I didn't enjoy the application or the white film it leaves on your lips. It makes my lips look white. I won't be repurchasing.

I like this lip balm, though I must admit, when I use it, I use it in conjunction with another lip balm like the Pomegranate or the Honey balms. I do this because it is not as rich or smooth to apply as the others. Otherwise, it's a great, fruity smelling balm that was perfect for my Grand Canyon trip. It did what it said and protected them from the sun. :)

I do agree that it would be a huge upgrade if the SPF was higher. And I would love to see the addition of a more nurturing oil, like the Pomegranate Oil in the other lip balm, which I wanted but didn't get because it didn't have SPF protection. I didn't like having to choose one advantage over the other. Other than that, I love this lip balm. People don't realize the importance of protecting the lips from the damaging affects of the sun. The lip balm is not dependent and lips are left very hydrated. I put it on at night, and wake up with hydrated lips, which was never the case before. During the day it's perfect.

This lip balm is just as great as the other Burt's Bees varieties, but the SPF and passionfruit flavor make it the very best ever! We live in Colorado and get so much sun, so the SPF really makes a difference. My lips stay supple year round.
