Very upset I bought this last minute as a back up flash I normally shoot with just a 430ex II I thought this would be better the recycle time is horrible now trying to find a 430exii in stock somewhere. This drained my batteries way to fast...
Pros: Excellent mate for Canon 60D. Relatively light in weight and firmly attaches to the camera's hot shoe. This unit worked seamlessly in automatic mode with the camera and provided exceptional illumination for the photos taken thus far. Cons: None
I bought this flash as a smaller flash to have on my camera while photographing weddings. Unfortunately it wasn't fast enough as the evening went on the cycle time took too long I was missing shots. After having it a month I traded it in for the 600 since I already own one of them and they are fast and work great for my needs.
I recently purchased the Canon 430EX III RT based on online reviews and vender referrals and have to say that I am extremely disappointed with this Unit. It makes a great on-camera flash via the hot shoe but when trying use it with a multiple flash set up or an off camera flash I have yet to get it to link up with either of my 600EX-RT speedlite or my ST E3-RT transmitter.
ALMOST. Come on, Canon! How much longer do I have to wait for you to make a Speedlight with auto zooming from 18-135mm to match the STM kit lens that came with my EOS Rebel T4i camera? Other than that, it looks good. I especially like the reduced size, the broad bounce angle range and the availability of a Speedlite 430EX III-RT-specific bounce adapter and color filter. Oh, yeah -- the inability to be powered by an external compact battery pack filled with rechargable lithium batteries is a major oversight. Fix it when you come out with the 18-135mm auto zooming model.
