I was hoping this door was the solution to all our indoor/outdoor cat problems. But it seems to have created more problems. We wanted a door that stopped stray cats from coming in. It does that.We also wanted it to lock at night for one cat, but not for the other. This door can't do that. Or at least I can't figure out how to set it for that. Locks for all cats at the times you specify.BUT if you have a particularly persistent cat, the door opens when it is supposed for be locked! One of our cats keeps pawing and nudging it with her head and it will open when it is supposed to be locked. The unlock sound is very loud. To the point that it has scared one cat from using it forever. He will not go near it. But the other cat got used to it. If you have a skittish cat, you may have problems. So now we are back to letting him in and out the human door. Which defeats the purpose of having a cat door at all.The tag detection system also doesn't seem to be that strong. The cat has to have their neck/tag very close to it to trigger the unlock, so they really have to smush their heads into it to get the neck close enough.
Really nice door. First we ordered another door made by another company but it was just so small. This one is much bigger and fits our large cats. One is about 20 pounds and the other is about 17 pounds. Our smaller cats fit through it easily also. I was afraid of the tunnel being too long for our smaller cat but she gets through just fine too. The locking and unlocking is pretty loud. Some of our cats use it all the time and some just use it when they absolutely have to. I think eventually they will all get used to the sound. But it is pretty loud and jarring
Defective product. The metal conductor supposed to connect and fix the 2 AA batteries is missing. Batteries are just surrounded by plastic making it unusable. Since I left the US I am supposed to ship this item at my expenses if I want a refund... Total nonesense.
The size of the opening is insufficient for most adult cats. Given that the door has an elongated tube like structure, (designed for installation in thick walls ) it essentially mimics a short tunnel. While it is easy for a cat to step over a hurdle in an open environment, a hurdle positioned inside a small tunnel is another matter, (especially for older cats that are not so limber). I considered cutting off the elongated section however, this section may contain a coil winding, (a receiver to detect the transmitter)The solenoid controlling the lock does not automatically function when the transmitter tag is in close proximity. For the lock to be released, pressure must first be exerted against the door then after a 1.5 second delay, the lock releases. The cat will bump against the door, (using a paw or its head), but the door doesn't open. This can discourage the cat from trying to go through.
I've had my door for 3 or 4 years. I like it, the cat who has privileges likes it. But now, the door is intermittently staying open when the privileged cat comes in and the non-privileged cats get out. Is anyone else having this problem? Have you found a solution in a specific part of the mechanics?
