Char-broil 40`` Offset Smoker

I love my offset Char-Broil smoker! I love to smoke briskets, ribs, chicken, and just about everything else. I light up my smoker just about every weekend.

Works great straight out of the box, however... I compared the expensive smokers (over $400) to this one...two main differences, thickness of the metal (thicker holds heat better) and how well it is sealed (temperature control). I decided to try to make it better without spending a fortune. So I bought some flexible heat resistant seal ($20)and installed it around the edge of the lid and then I bought a foil water heater jacket ($22) and covered the lid. A little black spray paint and... Now I get the performance of a $500 grill for a total out lay of less than half the cost of the expensive models. Results: Less than 10 degree difference at either end of the smoke box. Charcoal and wood consumption reduced by half and way better temperature control.

I got this to be my second smoker as I smoke large about for events. I used it yesterday and was very disappointed in the "Smoker" area. There are two holes at each end for a rotisseri (i think) that let smoke out and then the lid has a 1/4 inch gap all the way around so smoke leaks out there. I had both smokers going and used a charcoal ratio 2:1. (for every 1 chimney on the brink I used 2 on this one) After the smoke period, i had a hard time keeping the temp up at 200 or even above. I am now looking for another Smoker to be my second, and using this as my charcoal BBQ. Easy to put together, shipping was fast, checkout was easy, would I recommend as a Smoker- NO, would I recommend as a charcoal BBQ- YES.

i bought this smoker like 5 years ago and have turned out great food since. i have smoked everything from several boston butts to several slabs of ribs to a whole turkey and i will give you some advice on a turkey do not call the butterball hotline for they have no advice on the subject of smoking a turkey but anyway back to the smoker i agree that they should have put a different temp gauge on there but what i did was go to an outdoor store and found a replacement temp gauge drilled a hole just big enough for it and now i know what warm ideal and hot mean so i would suggest that if you dont want to go by the included temp gauge and i will be looking to buy another one here soon since the fire box after many years of great service has rusted and the vents do not close or open so im glad that i got it set the way i want it but i would recomend this to any backyard barbeque connoisseur

I read all the reviews before I purchased this smoker for my husband's birthday. We shopped around and always came back to this one. Luckily our local Walmart had one on display so we were able to examine it carefully. I agree with other reviewers that one key to getting the most out of this grill/smoker is to season the grill inside and out. We have used it three times since we put it together on May 9 to grill and smoke large and small amounts of food and it cooked perfectly each time. Everyone who has seen it wants one. We highly recommend it.
