Takes broken crayon pieces and makes half crayons not whole crayons. Tray always wanted to slide out once the machine was locked, making it a mess when trying to pour the melted crayon in the mold. Yes, very hard to clean, even when cleaning while still warm. Used a small amount of crayons, and took longer than expected for one batch to be done. So it would take forever to change your broken crayon pieces into these "new" crayons. Yes my kids liked it, it was neat to see the crayons melt but as a mom, totally a pain.

This Christmas gift for my girls didn't work again after only one use. When the timer knob was turned the door didn't lock and bulb didn't come on. The one time it worked the girls were not impressed with the half size crayons and I was not happy with the wax mess left for me to clean. It was virtually impossible to scrap all the leftover wax from the metal tray even after I heated it. If you do buy this remember to get the bulbs as they do not come with it when for the price at least one should.

I purchased this for my grandson & his sister. They have boxes of broken crayons, as most kids do. I had it sent to them as they live about 25 miles away. It needs a 60 watt bulb & adult supervision. They loved it! It was fun & safe & made new crayons with swriling colors. Best of all, no more broken crayons that kids don't want to use!

I had super high expectations after reading other peoples reviews on this crayon maker but it failed miserably. First of all the crayons that the crayon maker makes are not full length crayons. The mold produces half sized crayons. Also the crayons don't look like the picture. The colors muddle and it's not distinct like the box. The design of the melting tray and having to pour the tray into the molds - it's virtually impossible to get the swirled effect. It's also a lot of time to produce 4 half crayons. Save your money and do it the old fashion way - melt crayons in mini muffin tins for 15 minutes on a 200 degree oven.
