I used this dishwasher for 1 year, let my parents borrow it for a year (when I lived in a house with a dishwasher), and have been using it again for the last few months. It cleans better than any built-in dishwasher I've ever used. Even when you don't rinse the dishes, they come out completely clean. It dries well and leaves no residue. When I lived in an area with very hard water, the built-in water softener was great. The manual says to use dishwasher salt which is not available in the US, but kosher salt worked fine. My dishwasher is currently full with: 1 medium saucepan 1 9 x 13 pan 1 mixing bowl 8 dinner plates 4 small plates 2 spatulas 8 glasses 1 measuring cup 2 dessert bowls 1 cereal bowl lots of utensils My only problem with it is that it did not fit on my last sink, so I had to purchase a $5 adaptor at Home Depot and use teflon tape. On my current faucet, I just screwed it on with my hands--no leaks. Also, my parent's found it to be too small and had to use it very frequently (they have two teenagers at home). For just me, it is perfect!
This handy dandy Danby is excellent. I've had mine for just a little over a year. Oh my gosh, I had hand washed dishes almost all of my life so what a blessing! It is especially wonderful when hosting my big family dinners knowing that instead of standing at the sink for 45 minutes washing all the dishes and pots and pans that I can load the dishwasher, wash a few pans/pots and then visit with my guests! I cannot say anything more about this machine as far as its pro's as for con's there are very few. Again, for those that aren't familiar with these smaller machines you have to try and envision that they fit about half the amount of dishes as a normal built in. I can fill mine with 4-5 ppl eating dinner and breakfast and run a full load everyday. There is rarely room for pots and pans however I personally do not like putting my pots and pans in a dishwasher because it affects the finish. I do often fit my small and medium size saucepans in there. Also when I don't have quite a full load but feel I need to run it I'll stick the stove top burners and grills in. Some of the rack set up is awkward but for me once I got the hang of it and used to my own dishes I make it work great. I notice that even at my bosses house (I'm a nanny) with her full size built in that certain dish styles just load awkward anyway. The other thing I'd have to say is that the racks are just a tad flimsy. I've had the rollers fall off of the one and had to stick them back on. So I am very gentle with the racks especially the top one. Other than that I love it!! It certainly doesn't have as many settings as I'd like but for heaven's sake its still 1000 times better than all that hand washing. I've run it twice in a day!! lol If there is not way to make a built in work then I highly recommend this machine! PS: one other thing, for American users do not let the "salt" dispenser confuse you. I am pretty sure this is for the European customers that have severely harsh water and must add salt (like we do with our water heaters) to soften it. Unless you have an issue with that you don't have to use the "salt" dispenser. I only use the Jet Dry dispenser and then my favorite dishwasher soap.
I love my new dishwasher. I've used an 18" dishwasher before and this new one is incredible - it washes very well and holds a surprising amount of dishes. I love that the racks on the bottom fold down - I've been able to wash both of my crock pots - at the same time! Also LOVE that the upper rack is adjustable - it can be raised or lowered. This is a perfect feature for me. With the upper rack at its highest position, my dinner plates fit very well. With it at its lowest height I can put larger plastic items on the top shelf (my salad spinner, larger Tupperware, extra tall glasses, etc). Now, that said ... and I will repeat that I love my new machine ... I was very disappointed when I received the machine the first time. It arrived in a very beat up box which did not bode well. Once opened, I discovered one side of the machine was dented, which I could have lived with, but the other side was so out of plumb (alignment) that I couldn't even open the door. Imagine how sad to have a very eagerly anticipated dishwasher just sitting there taking up very precious floor space in my very small apartment! Once I made contact with a Walmart customer service person, I was able to get the machine scheduled for pick up on the next business day (I called on Saturday morning and it was picked up on Monday.) And my new machine was there by Wednesday - I think they express shipped it to me. Anyway, it was a minor blip in a pretty much wonderful experience ... most importantly, I now have a fantastic machine that works as good as if not better than your average full sized machine. And it's Energy Star! My life is better since I've had this - not to sound too cheesy - but I feel better about cooking for myself now that I have a place to put my dirty dishes. It's just so much easier to keep my kitchen clean. If you are on the fence about whether to buy this dishwasher or not, I say go for it. Yes it's expensive, but in the long run, I'm going to be eating better and I'll have more free time. I think the cost is more than worth that!!!
The Danby has worked great! When we ran it the first time, the door seal leaked, so we just tightened the screw on the handle and haven't had a problem since. Other then that, I'd recommend this dishwasher to anyone with a small space & small family. My husband, one year old son and I generate enough dishes to do one load a day. It's also relatively quiet.
Very affordable and does an excellent job. Saved the shipping charges by using site2store. 100% satisfied.
