The DirtDevil Stick vacuum is just what we needed to pick up bits of mud, grass, etc. (dust and cat hairs too) from the floor where we take off our outdoor shoes. It has good suction and is light enough not to be a chore to use. It takes a little more floor space than would be ideal because the battery charger has to be put flat on the floor. But the battery in this DirtDevil is not replaceable, so when it dies, off to the landfill (not good: landfill room is getting scarce, and guess why?) I discovered this only by emailing the DirtDevil people. I also learned: 1. Let the battery run down completely before you charge it again (to avoid the "memory effect" that makes batteries take less and less charge until they can't be charged enough to power the item they're in). 2. Then charge it for 16 hours. 3. And don't leave it in the charger to store it. ...because once the battery doesn't work anymore, you have to buy a whole new DirtDevil Stick Vacuum. This information is not in the instruction manual, and it should be!
I have bought so many different little vacuums, brooms, dust mops, etc. to use on my wood floors, I could start my own resale shop!! I immediately assembled this little vacuum and started charging it. I let it charge a full 24 hours before using it. I have 2 cats, 2 dogs, 2 parrots, and 3 kids! I usually have to get my big shop vac out to pick up all the bird seed, cat litter, and sand from the kids' shoes. I have worn out brooms and dust mops, only to see that all they really did was get the big stuff and spread the sand around. THIS LITTLE GUY IS AMAZING !! Not only does it pick up dried corn from the birds, and cat litter, you can glide it with one finger. It truly is amazing. Best investment in cleaning item I probably made in a number of years!! It just floats on wood, tile, smooth surface floors. It will work okay on carpet, but save this to use on wood, etc. I kept the little basket empty, which takes 2 seconds. I cleaned about 1000sq ft before it acted like it needed to be back on the charger. I just keep it in the mudroom, sitting on the charger. It's ready to go all the time. Great for last minute clean-ups before Dad comes home!
With three dogs and a crawling baby, this is exactly what I needed for our floors. Most of my house is ceramic tile and hardwood flooring so this is a blessing. I had another stick vac and it just didn't work well at all. I am not sure why people complain about having to empty it often - I am glad to empty it because it means it is working! It has picked everything up off of my floors and I am so grateful I bought this stick vacuum. No more baby crawling around on a dirty floor with dog hair! I also have not had problems with it losing a charge either. I highly recommend it to anyone! Go out and buy one, you will be glad you did!!!!!
Finally picked this one after reading lots of reviews of similar products with no clear winner -- someone hates something about every vacuum out there. My priorities were cordless, works on hard surfaces, actually picks up dirt. Per reviews and my own experience, this one does all that great. Can't give 5 stars because that's for something truly phenomonal, but consider 4 stars a very high recommendation. Pros: - lightweight - easy to grab & go, put back on stand - easy to empty - cordless (If you have to deal with a cord, you have to really want to vacuum -- with this, it's easier to vacuum up crumbs than to even try to pick up by hand.) - does an ok job on carpet (We have cream carpets everywhere, plus 3 little kids and a shoe-wearing hubby. This picks up the visible stuff so the carpets don't look dirty just because of a few pieces of sock fuzzies. Certainly wouldn't use it for a primary carpet vacuum.) - easy on the stairs Cons: - span is a little small (Good enough for quick pick-ups but if you want it for all-over it might not be enough.) - doesn't separate into a hand-vac like some (I don't care but you might.) I use it at least once a day. I don't dump it every time since I generally only do a little. Emptying it is easy, but I have to use my fingers to sort of wipe the dust off the outside of the filter or it doesn't come off (tapping on the trashcan per instructions only takes off the big stuff). Maybe this isn't necessary but it seems like a good idea to me. I've had no trouble with the run time but I haven't used it more than 10 minutes at a time yet either. Can't rate durability since I've only had it a few weeks. 4 stars for value because, come on, $50 for a little vacuum? But it's better than $100, and I didn't want to spend only ~$30 and have it not work at all. Overall I'm thrilled with this. Can't believe I waited so long. If you have hard surface floors, little mess makers, hubbies who track dirt in from the garage, cats/dogs/other hairy beasts, I think you'd be thrilled with this too.
Light and convienient it saves time when you have a small mess to clean up and you don't want to lug out the big vacuum.
