This is a pretty good smoker though it could be improved upon. It does a good job smoking but definitely have to be careful with placement of your food. If you have a large quantity of items like chicken thighs for example, there is a large difference in the heat from the firebox side to the opposite side. Meat on the firebox side will cook much faster and overcook long before the meat on the other side. Also there are a lot of air leaks right out of the box. These can be somewhat corrected, search YouTube for videos on how to negate some of these before you assemble it. It is definitely capable of awesome results once you learn it quirks but will definitely require some patience. The manufacturer definitely could make it a lot more user friendly for a small amount of cost which I would not mind paying for a better product. There needs to be some kind of heat diffuser plate where the heat exits the firebox so it is more uniform across the entire cooking chamber. I plan to make something for this purpose in the future. Overall it works and I have made some tasty meals with it.
Smoker arrived when promised. No damages to the box or the unit. Assembled in about an hour. All parts were there. Did the seasoning burn out like the book said. Was hard to get temperature to stay at low. But that's probably because this is my first smoker. I put an inside drip pan in there and it raised the temp too high. My fault. On first smoke, I took that pan out and used half the amount of charcoal, half the box. This time I couldn't get it up to 225. My fault again, learning a smoker. You will have to fill the box and not cover that hole in the bottom to get correct temp. Like I said, I'm learning. But I did not have to add any sealant to the unit like others said. I did straighten one place at the top of the door that was crooked. Their seal is clipped in bit seemed to do well after the adjustment.
I have this smoker got it last year and about 2-3 weeks ago I finally got to use it and I love it did a 15lbs of brisket for 12 hours the temperature stayed right between 225-250 all day there was very little smoke leaking out and I plan on using it a lot more this year the only thing I have to complain about is I wish the drip pan was either bigger or deeper cause it didn't take long to fill up
this smoker works great i used high temp silicone to seal it between the offset box and the body and it had a open gap on the back at the top i sealed with the silicone but it worked great it seasoned up easy and worked great on the first cook its worth the buy
I had to add a heat deflector on the bottom shelf, otherwise flames would reach the hanging sausages. I use cherry wood, so it requires a little more management than coals. Also, as most have noticed, the temp gage is off by about 30F...bought another for $20 and installed it in 2min right under the original one. I did not add any caulk or extra sealer; but I used a dozen self-tapping screws all around the opening, between firebox and smokebox. It keeps the two boxes together supertight, without any smoke leaks. I've cooked and smoked various meats with it and made some of the best jerky we ever had, all in 30F weather. ...brrrr, Michigan. Bought a wireless temp monitor too; I highly recommend one of those. Purchased from Mayfair, through Walmart. I got it in 5 days, no dings. yey!
