ecobee Night Vision 1080p Video Surveillance Cameras with Wired Smart Doorbell Camera, Black

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ecobee has given me a sense of safety when home alone. I love the different ways you can utilize it, and have recommended it to everyone in my family. I was given this product in exchange for my honest review.

I was eager to set up this camera, as it was advertised as being compatible with HomeKit. However, I was disappointed to discover that it does not support HKSV. I have decided to return this camera and invest in one that offers full HomeKit support. It is important to me to have the option for video recording capabilities. What's the point of not being able to record video? It is puzzling why a camera would offer HomeKit support without the ability to record video. It seems impractical to expect customers to purchase a costly camera without microSD support and pay for an additional service. I am already a subscriber to Apple HKSV. I have an ecobee thermostate, sensors on each floor and multiple ecobee cameras but this here is a nail in the coffin for me for buying any more devices.

Must have a subscribtion for the camera to take videos. The device only take snapshots without paid subscription, and that is definitely a very limited and not a viable solution for security in my view. The annoying part is that I could not find this clearly stated anywhere on the ecobee site, why?

After just 2 weeks it lost connection. Because it is hardwired you have to cut the breaker and everything else on the circuit just to restart it. The reset button makes you start over on the setup. Neither is simple or convenient. My router runs on the same circuit so it doesn't work well.

No HomeKit secure video, what a shame. I've genuinely loved the ecobee products I have (multiple thermostats, indoor cameras & sensors) and their ability to work well with system I use (apple homekit) was always fantastic. It really set them apart from the competition. Though with this product I see they are falling in line with many of the other companies in the smart home space. Forcing customers into yet ANOTHER subscription that they don't want. What a let down. I thought ecobee was better, but I guess not. With my previous ecobee experience I would have bought two of these, no questions asked if they supported HomeKit secure video. But will never buy one without full homekit implementation. In fact, I'm now somewhat wary of the company as a whole to be honest. Greed ruins another great company/product.
