I have purchased this brush more than once but most recently ordered it online a few months ago. I was comparing a few similar brushes and was looking at name brands to take note of which was my favorite and decided to come write this review upon noticing it was the e.l.f. sculpting brush I reach for most. I don't "contour" in the way many now use the term; as in sculpting lines with multiple products to alter my face shape but I do use foundation, powders blush and highlighter on a daily basis on specific areas of my face. I hope that makes sense. Regardless, this brush has a nice handle to offset the densely packed fibers on the application end; plus it is cruelty free! My favorite method for using this brush is to lightly spray a bit of water or setting spray on it then I add liquid or cream foundation / base / tinted moisturizer directly on my skin and use this brush to begin spreading the product on my entire face. I use a stippling motion combined with short strokes. This method doesn't leave a flawless finish but it sets up an even area of coverage that I can then "finish" by using one or more of my e.l.f. blending sponges. Another more obvious way to utilize this brush is for applying bronzer or blush; making sure to use the technique most appropriate for the desire look. For example, on someone with youthful skin who isn't concerned with any "hallow" looks I would follow the cheek bones. I am over 35 and want more fullness in my face so if wearing bronzer I apply it above the underside of the cheek bone in order to offset creating a "hallowed" appearance. Additionally you can use the brush for the darker product after applying base without having to clean in between. I do firmly believe in washing all of my brushes once a week at the least but I also have back up brushes in case I didn't have time.
I'm so I'm love with you Michael. This is the perfect deep pink lipgloss. I absolutely love it!! Its so rich & pigmented. Now I have to agree with other posts that the application it very bad lol.... But its no biggie to me I have several add application wands & just tossed the one the came w/ the tube & replaced it w/ one from an empty clear gloss tube & it was a perfect fit!!! Other then the application wand this product is great & still worthy of 5 stars!!!
I used this brush for the first time today to blend out my liquid bronzer and apply my powder bronzer, and it works wonderful. It help my achieve a more natural look that I have been unable to get from other brushes I've used (especially when blending my liquid bronzer). The shape is perfect and fits nicely along my jaw line and around my cheeks. It had a few bristles that were long than others but that did not impair it's performance and it did not shed.
I've had Scott, Michael, Brian, and Joe for a while. I don't use them a ton because they have about the same lasting power as any gloss so I tend to reach for a long-wear lipstick. I do wish that these came in a wider range of colors and had no shimmer in them. I don't like gloss so much, and being 20 now, I can say with confidence that these are the only lip products I've bought with shimmer in around 10 years. I've never liked shimmery products, but these are tolerable as I like the formula and applicator. The shimmer is most prominent after they wear off or wipe off. The shimmer is dispersed like a glitter (sparsely,) but the sparkles are very fine like shimmer. Michael is the only one I have in the darker colors and it has full coverage with no issue with streaking or bleeding. Brian, Scott, and Joe are all lighter (pale pink, pale nude, and light orangey-peach) and need a primer to smooth out dry lips or lips with lines to keep the product from being more opaque in the lines and more transparent on the plumper areas. I don't have prominent lines or extremely patchy lips, but I do need a small amount of primer or liner over my lips to ensure that the lighter colors stay uniform. I'd prefer if they didn't, because they really are moisturizing and I'd like to put them directly on my lips. Overall they're moisturizing, about middle of the line as far as wear-time, fairly even to apply depending on which color and your lip texture, have a paddle shaped doe-foot applicator that so far hasn't broken on any of mine, and decent to good color payoff.
Picked up two colors in my last ELF order. Michael and a light one (which I can't remember the name of..) Michael: Pros: Incredibly pigmented. Like holy cow!! The color is rich and goes great with my skin tone. The gloss itself is super smooth and feels wonderful. The glossiness does wear off but the color remains so unless you want the glossy look all day you don't need to re-apply Cons: Non The other color: Pros: Feels as good as the other color Cons: Pigmentation is not nearly so rich (which is not suprising as it is a lighter color) I found it went on streaky and just kind of looked a bit more "youthful than what I would normally go for"
