I have been through two other pregnancies and had taken other prenatals. This is now my third pregnancy and I started taking the prenatals I mostly used during my second pregnancy but then I wanted to try something new. I was looking around at the store and found these Enfamil prenatals. The first day I took the pills, I took then before going on a drive. While driving through a bumpy bridge, I began feeling nauseous and bloated. Even though I am pregnant, this was not normal for me to feel. I assumed that because I had just passed a bumpy bridge, it may had shaken my stomach therefore I was feeling this way. It lasted a few hours, I even talked to my husband about it. The next day, I ate a small meal and took the pill. Within 30 minutes again I felt bloated and nauseous. I was thinking it may be the food. On the third day, I didn't want to eat much so I only ate fresh fruit throughout the day. I took my prenatal pill at mid-day but again, 30 minutes later I felt nauseous. I then began thinking it was the pills because fresh fruit was not something that would cause me to feel this way. I stopped taking the pills and that same day that I stopped drinking it, I stopped feeling bloated and nauseous. That was the worst experience with prenatal pills. I have tried over 5 different brands in all my pregnancies and none caused me these type of side effects. It was horrible! Worse than my early pregnancy morning sickness.
I'm pregnant with my second child, I didn't take prenatals with my first and decided I'd give it a shot. I had gummi ones at first but they tasted so fishy I decided to go with swallowables. I get an uncomfortable chest pain sometime when I take them (the vitamins are pretty big), and bad nausea if I take it on an empty stomach or after a snack, so when it says "take with meal", take with a whole meal. Otherwise has been working great, improved energy and attitude in general. They do give bad tasting burps, as well.
I am a first time mom and have tried other prenatal supplements including one prescribed by my doctor, vitafusion, and one a day and so far this has been the best so far. The one prescribed by my doctor was a big size and it felt like I was swallowing a horse pill and the vitafusion gummy was too sticky. Before switching to Enfamil prenatal, I read good reviews about it and also heard from other mothers (who previously used this product) that they were satisfied with this prenatal. What's great about the product is that it contains all vitamins needed, especially DHA. I was happy that I did not have to buy a separate bottle for DHA. Most people complain about the taste and smell from other brands but this prenatal didn't have a taste as it was just a pill. As far as smell, there's a slight smell but I think its normal when opening any bottle of pills. This was also very easy for the stomach. I didn't feel nauseated or side effects.
Enfamil used to sell this as just the DHA pill - they were great! Only non-fishy DHA I found. Now they only sell it as a pack with a prenatal, which would be fine except the prenatal is FISHY! Why would you offer a non-fishy DHA with a fishy prenatal? Makes no sense.
I read a lot of the reviews here and everyone is making it seem like these pills are NOT a prenatal vitamin and they are.. I dont know if they changed the product over the years to include the prenatal vitamin with the DHA supplement but this is not just the dha you are getting .. You get a month supply of both in the pack. I compared the prenatal vitamin with my Vitafusion prenatal supplement I was taking and this one is far better. Just wanted to let you ladies know that these are both the prenatal and dha :-)
