I wanted a smart phone, and Verizon won't allow it, unless you back a truck up to pay them $70+/mo. for 2 yrs minimum. This, however, is a Straight Talk phone, which happens to use the Verizon lines, so our reliance on Verizon is circumvented effectively (Yay! They're the only signal we get, so we're stuck with them.) $45./mo is roughly what we pay now, without internet, so it seemed like a no-brainer to go with this. It's a smart phone, and with the $45. card, the phone only costs $10. GREAT deal! Unfortunately, it's not the greatest smart phone. It's a nice size - on the small end, but a good weight/size for pockets or hands. As a phone, it works fine, and gets a good Verizon signal, but the texting is not easy, and the internet is not really good - because of the tiny screen. (It's only about 3" tall, so it's not even as big as my old/tiny Garmin GPS.) I was hoping it would be a replacement for my GPS, because it is so old/small, but I could never use this for driving. (My son has a bigger phone, and a better screen, so you can use his for driving.) If you just want an inexpensive phone on Verizon's network, that you CAN text or surf with, this is a great deal financially, but you won't enjoy it on the text and surf sides, because it's too small a screen. Pros: Great price ($10. for a phone?). Verizon signal, without Verizon prices. Works good as a phone. Nice size/weight for pockets or purse. Accepts voice searches, and voice call directions. Sync's up with Google for Contacts, etc. Battery seems to last a long time on a charge, for idle time. Quite a few nifty aps already loaded. (Calendar, clock, calculator, etc.) Cons: Not Good for texting, virtual keys are pretty tiny. Not great for surfing, as screen is too small to see details. Camera is NOT good. Poor resolution, even on tiny screen. Sync's up with Google Contacts (Even though I didn't ask it to). Quite a few aps already loaded. (Not all are wanted.) Overall, this is a great deal for a beginner, to see if they really want a phone, before committing to a monthly plan, and it's worth it just to find out if you can get signal at the places you will use it. (We've been burned on that before, where they say you'll get a signal, but you really don't.) Good to know that Straight Talk uses Verizon on "this" phone, but it's not on Verizon for ALL their phones, so do be sure you know, before you buy. The phone determines what carrier lines you'll be on, not the Straight Talk service. (I checked Verizon's site to be sure, before I purchased this one, AND I checked the Area Code Map, that is on the page, too.) Best of all, you're only out $10. if your kid drops it in the toilet or loses it.

This phone is a great starter phone for people who want a smart phone without the extra stuff and contracts. This phone do the same as my mother's Samsung galaxy only without the expensive fees and huge phone to carry around. I wish they added a front camera but over all I would recommend this phone to others.

From the time i opened the package...the dial pad has not worked...i can not end a call...i can not press "1" for English...etc...i will be contacting straight talk as soon as i can use someone else's phone. Other than that, i Love its other features. This particular phone needs to be fixed though.

I love the Straight Talk Optimus Dynamic Smartphone because it is easy to use, and works for what I need it for. The only problem I have is the small letters when typing a text, but other than that, it is a great phone. Excellent for teenagers also who are getting their first phone.
