perfection!
i bought this Filtrete filter for an unusual use. We have an old ashley 1970s wood burning stove on our back porch and live in an older 1880s one story small farm house. To push the heat through the house we have a large fan at the doorway leading into the kitchen .I just wanted to see if hanging this filter behind the big fan placed blowing hot air into the kitchen would cut down on smoke smell dust and pet dander issues. Bingo within 1 hour the faint brown dust was collecting from the back of the filter. Later that day when my son opened the wood stove door to throw more wood in I went to the other end of the house where normally a huge smoke smell occurs. The smell was hardly detectable. I even checked the next time he loaded wood into the stove again with the same results. I load the stove quickly but not sure what he does ( well i am but at 24 he wont listen and he has smoke thru the whole house then the window has to be opened and fan reversed to get the smoke out then ...I have a mess lets say.) So the filter helps significantly catch the dust particles and wood smoke smell. We also have 3 older farm cats that prefer to stay on the porch as late fall/winter settles in and something I'm starting to notice allergies cat dander when we shut the house up for fall(windows etc.). My nasal congestion has decreased to almost zero since using this filter so I am 100% sold on this filter. The only downside is it's a bit pricey but It did exactly what I was hoping it would do. I will also use it next summer as we don't use an air conditioner until it hits 95 degrees. We leave our windows open and have a large gravel driveway and cow pasture close to the house. The drought this past summer seemed to increase the amount of dust normally pulled into house so i will also use this filter with the fan we use.to pull fresh air in. I can't catch all the dust but keeping a filter behind the big house fan will catch circulating dust, dander and some of the pet hairpet hair circulating around the house. I'm no expert but if just by putting this furnace filter behind a fan helps our situation, I would think this filter securely in place inside your furnace would do the job it was intended to do!!! I will be buying this filter again in a couple of months.
i use this filter during the height of allergy season for me and it helps. i wouldn't use it every month because of its thickness. However, I put one in during the changing of the seasons.
To coin a phrase, "You get what you pay for." Tempting as it may be to grab a cheap filter, you're smarter to get the best you can afford. Lasts longer, filters better, keeps the air in your home free of that invisible dust that settles on everything. Less dusting--always a good thing!
For many years I used the cheap blue air filters. The house I currently own is on a dirt road and I also have two German Shepherds, notorious for shedding. Going over to this filter has seen a remarkable difference in dust. I replace it every two months. Just my opinion.
