First Alert 1.2 cu. ft. Steel 1-Hour Fire and Anti-Theft Safe with Combination and Key Lock, 2084F Gray

I also own a First Alert 2.1cu.ft electronic combination fire safe with a backup key but opted for this manual lock when an electronic Sentry safe I owned went kaput without notice. (The only way trough the problem was to cut it open with a jig saw. It took about 40 minutes with additional cajoling from a hammer and chisel- LOL!) The long and short of these safes- they're moderate fire protection with a basic security function but determined thieves, willing to steal the entire safe, can crack it- literally. This is however an all metal safe, relatively heavy, with a basic- but loose- shelf. It's easy to move around, slides across the carpet/floor but has no wheels. At the time I purchased this was the most economical/affordable option. The lock is metal but surrounded by plastic. Some safe cracker on YouTube might have a comment about that. For several hundred dollars more, better safes are available if you have the cash. But if you're looking for basic fire and theft protection, this baby rolls in at a very affordable Walmart price.

Same exact item at Lowe's was about $70 to $80 higher. It pays to shop around.

Safe opened just fine . . . but try to bolt it down , impossible with what they give you. Bolts have to go in from the bottom and they wont thread into the holes. I guess I'll have to purchase a tap set and retap the holes. Which is something a quality control person should be checking.

Ordered this hoping it would fit well under my computer desk. Worked perfectly. When I received it, It had a dent on the top and a huge dent on the bottom left corner like it had been dropped during the shipment. Other than that, the safe is really well made. Would recommend this safe to anyone looking for a good fire proof safe to protect almost anything. The manufacturer recommends not to put medications or weapons in this safe. But I honestly don't see anything wrong with it as long as it is in a good dry environment.
