We've used this diaper pail for 18 months now and it has been great the whole time. The batteries do run low pretty quickly, but even when the batteries run out, you can't smell it if you get it all the way closed (not that hard to do). Of course, as with any pail, when it's open, you get a whif of the contents, but it's gone once you get it closed. We LOVE that we can use regular trash bags with it too. Just last week, we accidentally lost the cone that shoves the diaper down into the bag and ended up throwing it away with the diapers. It just took an email to the manufacturer and in one day they had another part on the way free of charge, no questions asked...fantastic! We have another baby on the way and intend to continue using this diaper pail all the way through!

I tried 2 different versions of the Diaper Genie & hated every ONE!!! They STUNK, no matter what I did!!!! My friends had the same issues with them. I also tried the Diaper Champ because it used regular bags... I would recommend that over the Diaper Genie because it is cheaper to use, but it still smells a bit as well unless you empty it daily. I rather use a regular garbage can then those so I was intrigued 3.5 years ago when this pail came out. When I got pregnant the 2nd time & found out it twins I splurged and bought this pail... it was brand new at the time & had only a few reviews & they weren't great. People said the fan was loud so they gave it low marks... but honestly it's like a computer fan on for 60 seconds!!! I almost didn't buy it because of the cost ($60 when it first came out after taxes) but it was SO worth every penny! The biggest 2 pros about this pail is it doesn't smell & it uses regular household trash bags. The construction is durable & even with my now 3 yr old twins who have played with it while it was stored in their closet it is still in perfect shape. The filters should be replaced & aren't to bad price wise... I also found they last longer then they say! The batteries are the biggest down side, but even if they are dead the pail keeps the odor in! Plus they are making rechargeable batteries again which can help save money. Really gross & yucky story, but proves the power of this pail! When I moved the twins were 4 months old & it was a last minute, I need a place to live thing because I was getting a divorce. Anyways in the move the pail with it's dead batteries, 4 month old filter and FULL of dirty diapers got put in a closet behind boxes, I thought it had been lost. 6 months later we are setting up a real room for the twins & find it!!! There was NO smell when it was closed & we uncovered it, it actually got left for a while because we thought it was empty until we went to move it & realized it was full! I will tell you emptying it after that time was scary, but that diaper pail won my heart! It was one of the few things I kept & am glad I did because I plan to use it with this little one. Even without batteries I found it to work well. The key is the activated charcoal filter, that stuff filters out the nastiest of smells, I learned that on Mythbusters!

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this diaper pail and I have had it for 10 months. I don't even buy the filters, I just change the batteries and the bag. I never smell a thing (except of course when you are changing the bag!) As far as the noise... close it slowly and it isn't very loud at all. If you slam it shut it is loud, but so is anything that you slam shut. I love it and would completely reccommend it!

I bought this vs. the diaper genie to save money on the refills, plus I liked the carbon filter/fan idea. The fan is super quiet in fact I didnt relize the batteries had died until I started to smell it. So it must work because i only noticed a smell after the batteries died. Other reviewer are saying that the lid is loud. Its not super loud but personally my baby wakes up when i change him anyway so its not like IT wakes him up. I just change the bag when he's up so it doesnt bother him. I also am going to try what the other reviewer said about not usuing drawstring bag to see if I get even better performance out if it. I'm also going to try and see if they make rechargeable D batteries to see if i can save a little more money that way too.

I love this diaper pail. I've used it daily for 10 months. It never smells and I've never changed the filter. I went several months on dead batteries too and still no smell! It is loud, but my baby never sleeps through a diaper change so that's a non-issue. I didn't find it hard to assemble or operate, but it did take me a couple tries to get the trash bag in the first time. After that it's easy! I love it and it's definately cheaper than a diaper genie. I highly recommend it!
