I was so excited to receive this product! As a new and first time mom, I am constantly worried about our daughter. The product doesn't seem to bother her when its on and appears to have pretty accurate readings. It was interesting to find out that she wakes up and puts herself back to sleep at night. The noise machine aspect of the product is awesome! There are so many different music options. My only comment is that you're supposed to put it on before she falls asleep and sometimes we were unsure of when she'd fall asleep so we didn't know when to put it on. We used the Sproutling for a few days. Unfortunately, the strap did not seem to sit well on our son's leg, so the edges rubbed too roughly against his skin and it would constantly 'disconnect' from tracking every time we moved him. The tracking does seem nice but training it manually by logging waking and sleeping was rough. With no sleep and constant doctor's visits, remembering to log was one of the last things on our minds. Because of these reasons, and with the addition of things other users have mentioned, I feel like this might be better suited to slightly older babies. Manual logging would be easier to remember with more sleep and perhaps the strap would be easier to adjust on his leg. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I used this product for a week with my 7 week old newborn. The app was intuitive and easy to use. The Sproutling device provided information about if the baby was sleeping, awake, or rolling over. If parents are interested strictly in tracking babies sleep, this device would do the trick, but you could also just track in many of the various apps available for your phone. I was hoping Sproutling would have a way to keep track of baby's heart-rate or breathing, but it does not, other than to show an animated beating heart when baby is asleep. We did not use this past 1 week as it was provided for free for a review. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I've been using this with my 6 week old for a little more than a week. Setup was easy and the app is easy to use but unfortunately doesn't provide a lot of information, for example a little beating heart shows baby's heart beating but there's no way to see an actual heart rate number. I found the sleep tracking feature not to be very accurate and even when I tried to manually adjust sleep/wake times and tell the app that she was awake when it thought she was sleeping, nothing really changed. Whenever my baby moves I get a notification that she rolled over, though she's too little to actually roll and most of the movement comes from an adult picking her up. It may be a more useful feature when she gets older. I felt like the wearable is bigger than it needs to be. The charger base is nice and I like all of the different sound options it has, but the night light is too dim to be used at night for diaper changing. Overall this seems like a more expensive, bigger, and more cumbersome version of a basic first generation Fitbit with just a few minor tweaks to make it a "baby" product. Fisher Price has a lot of great products, unfortunately I just don't think this one is there yet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Sproutling setup was simple and straightforward. The product is very sleek and was easy to put on my baby, and the app seems simple and easy to use. Unfortunately, I have the charger in my baby's nursery, and when I put her down to nap in any other room, the charger won't pick up the Sproutling. This means I'd have to log almost all of baby's naps manually, which kind of defeats the purpose. Also, unless you want to leave it on them 24/7, you have to put the Sproutling on right when they're about to sleep... which tends to wake them up! Not sure that this is even a fixable problem, due to the nature of the product being a wearable, but it makes it very unusable for us. Finally, I don't think that the sleep tracking this product offers really adds much to the “what my baby is up to” picture, personally. I am more satisfied with my basic video monitor. The nightlight and music on the Sproutling charger are nice features, but they don't add enough value to make this worth the high price tag. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
