Although they started in Cleveland as one of the two offshoots of the arty proto-punks Rocket From The Tombs, the Dead Boys quickly moved to New York and gained a reputation as possibly the most genuinely nihilistic band on the CBGB's scene. This collection of board and audience tapes from the group's early heyday shows off Stiv Bators, Cheetah Chrome and the boys at their young, loud, and snotty best. They alternately bait the audience and casually tear off early New York punk classics like "Sonic Reducer," "Caught With the Meat in Your Mouth," and the non-LP "Son of Sam" with even more abandon than on either of their albums. The sound quality is sometimes iffy, but this is an essential document of New York punk.
