Easy to use, great price! Just used it for my first half marathon this past weekend, and it was awesome. Simple data transfer to garmin connect, as well as uploading data to strava (optional). I purchased the one with the heart rate monitor, and the watch recognizes it quickly. Overall, 5 stars!
I'm new to running and am training for a half marathon. I don't normally wear a watch so timing our runs was getting difficult. I also did not have any idea of distances when running, so after reading lots of reviews I chose the Garmin Forerunner 405 with the heart rate monitor. My other heart rate monitors were never very good, so for a few $ more I added in the monitor. Walmart had the best price and quick shipping. It was easy to set up. I'm not very techy and was worried I wouldn't GET it, but it is pretty straight forward with not too many unnecessary options. Does not take long to find a satellite. Syncs to the computer by it self after a workout and the free website to track your workouts and routes is very cool. I have used the HR monitor for a couple of my treadmill workouts and it works beautifully. No fussing, it just does its job. The GPS gets a little confused when you are on the treadmill but there is an additional gadget you can buy for non road workouts. I have been using this for about 3 weeks and have used it for 12 runs. Does need regular/frequent charging. 5 Stars.
I am an avid cyclist and motocross racer and have used HRMs for over ten years. I was very excited to get the Garmin 405 and as soon as I got it, I began testing it. Initially, I was blown away by how awesome this product is. I was literally singing it's praises and telling everyone who seemed interested about how great it was. The wireless link was very convenient and the website (Garmin Connect# was nothing short of amazing. I loved the lap counter feater, the map component, the goals, and everything. However, about 3-5 days after downloading the ANT+ and Garmin Connect software, my Dell Inspiron #about 18 months old) began freezing up and crashing with increasing regularity. Prior to downloading that software, I had had zero problems with my Dell. NONE. Suddenly, my computer was crashing ALL the time. I used System Restore to remove the Garmin software and voila, my Dell was back to it's old self and running like a champ. However, after talking to numerous people who claimed that it "couldn't be the Garmin software", and due to the fact that the website and software was so impressive to me, I couldn't resist the impulse to try the Garmin software again. About 7 days after deleting the Garmin software, I decided to give it another shot. After downloading the ANT+ and Garmin Connect software a second time, the Dell continued to work flawlessly for 3-5 days (again) and I was optimistic it would continue doing so. However, it soon began to crash again only this time, it COMPLETELY died and wouldn't allow me to use System Restore. The product itself is AMAZING and I would give it a 5 star rating but killing my $1000 desk top was NOT cool. I feel kinda guilty giving it even 3 stars but I guess I need to be fair since the software does not (obviously) destroy every computer.
The features are great. The price was the lowest I found anywhere. It was a little hard to setup before using the first time, but overall is a great product.
I had high hopes for this expensive watch, however, was very disappointed. I can't relate at all to the high reviews. The bezel was difficult to make work. The instructions were sorely lacking. There was no Garmin GPS reception around my house or even when we got out on the ride in wide open road. And calorie counter: nothing explaining how to get to it, or how to set it up. And the software that was on the computer was very limited, programmed to certain specifications, and none I wanted to use: cyclists have different needs than runners, and I found that without the GPS, none of it mattered. I got a close-out heart monitor watch for $15 and it has a heart monitor, timer, and calorie counter that work great: $15 vs. $215. Go figure.
