Garmin n��vi 780 - GPS navigator - automotive 4.3" widescreen

I purchased two of these last Christmas, one for each daughter. (They travel quite a bit). [NOTE: If you purchase this type of device as a present, go ahead and charge it and make sure it works. If you have any problems, be SURE to return it to Wal-Mart within 30 days. Last year, I purchased them early, and the 30-day electronics return deadline was up before we even knew that one of the devices didn't work. Garmin replaced it--with a refurbished device (I paid for a new one), but the process would have been less complicated and we would have received a new replacement device, if we had returned it to Wal-Mart in time, instead.] We used one of them for a cross-country mother/daughter trip this past October and navigating Virginia Beach for almost a week, and it worked great! [Most recently, my daughter used the traffic service to detour successfully around flood waters on Christmas day.] This year, I bought one for my husband. He opened it early (I had charged it to make sure it worked), so he could enjoy it during our Christmas trip. [NOTE: If you plan to use the MSN Traffic Update Service, set it up BEFORE you leave home. You must remain in the same zip code for 20 minutes to an hour while they set up your account. That foresight might have saved us (4 of us) four hours or so on the side of I-20 outside of Fort Worth and the rest of our Christmas Eve spent in the son's "Red Pontiac Motel" :) in a convenience store parking lot.] You can bet as soon as we got to our intended destination, we set up the traffic updates service. It didn't work by phone (it was Christmas morning, so lots of folks might have been setting theirs up), so we used the Internet when we got there. I worked well on the trip home, though. This product is great. One of last year's has always worked well, and the replacement for the faulty one has worked well since she received it. All of them were a very competitve price. Just received the garmin Nuvi 780 and it has performed well and very easy to use. Wished that it came with an AC adapter as well as a carrying case like the lower model garmin Nuvi 660.

You will need to go on-line to register this product and download current maps when you receive it. Plan on this taking a few hours. 45 minutes to register and 1-2 hours to download maps. It is a touch screen so the unit is pretty self explanitory and therefore lacks a huge 'how to use' booklet. It takes more time to go through all of the screens to become aquainted with everything this GPS is capable of doing. You can link it to your car radio if you'd like. If you make a wrong turn or need to take a detour it will automatically re-calculate your route. This feature alone makes the product well worth the price. The first time we used the 780 we had to take a detour because a bridge was out. It re-calculated our route and got us around all the backroads, and back on to our destination route, with no time lost. With the GPS in the car we had no fear of getting lost in the unknown country side. My husband usually panicks when there is a detour. Not this time! We did notice that not every address will automatically come up on to the screen. We also noticed there were a few roads that were not on the current down-loaded maps. You might need to scroll through the 'points of interest' screens to locate a destination that has no official address to punch into the search screen. We've only had this product a few weeks, so hopefully the life expectancy will be worth the price. I chose to purchase this model because I read all of the reviews. This one seemed to have the best and largest percentage of positive reviews. We did lose satelite connection once or twice when traveling in the mountains of north-central Pennsylvania. Well worth the price. Nice big screen, and well built. I highly recommend this model.

I bought this garmin for my boyfriend who recently got a ticket for talking on his phone while driving, and also got accused of texting while using the navigation feature on his phone. So I figured this would be perfect. Thiis is the BEST Garmin I have ever owned. The mp3 feature is amazing, and the fact that you can hook it up to your car speakers, using the fm transmitter, makes it even better. The only thing this Garmin dosen't have is voice command, but It has everything else!!! It even bluetooths with your phone, and you can talk through the garmin, while listening to the other person on you car speakers!Very amazing product!!!!

I purchased the Garmin Nuvi , total including tax was $214.00. It was shipped very quickly to my local Walmart store. I started using it immediately. This was my first GPS, so I have nothing else to compare it to. I purchased this unit because it was one of the top recommendations from Consumer reports. This unit was $1000.00 a year ago. I used it for a few short trips. I took some detours just to see how it responds. It really gives great directions with many choices of voices, both male and female. It came with a three month subscription to MSN. I'm not certain i'll renew this feature. During the day the screen has a white background, that turns blue at night, a great feature so it does not blind you at night. It must work off of your time zone as it changes at sunrise and sunset. The traffic screen shows delays, and how long. I don't know if it picks up real time traffic, or just construction, have not gotten that far with it! This is a great unit and would tell my family and friends to buy it! I updated it without a problem when I purchased it, it was simple. There are options for Bluetooth compatability and many more various options including MSN forever with other units. So, you need to decide what options you will use and tailor this for yourself. Go to the Garmin site and compare uinits, they lay them out side by side. Garmin also has a factory outlet site that you can visit, with great discounts. I found the best price on Walmart, site to store. Try this or one of the other 700 series, it's great!!!
