This is a great garmin for the money. I'm very happy with it. It does more Than I thought it would. I drive a truck for a living and it really help me out With the bluetooth nuvi service. It makes it my job a lot better with all the Features that it has, the only thing that I don't like is that it don't come with A SD card so I can download my maps. I know that its a refurbished gps and It was a great 299.99 garmin for 94.00 it would have been nice if the SD card. Was it,but its a really great great deal in all n all.
I bought this GPS a month ago based on reviews here. I like it a lot. The unit looked new except for a small nick on the frame. It worked fine without problems. The 'gas price' feature is very interesting. I do get 'lost satellite reception' few times.
These are actually the 2nd and 3rd Garmin 1690 units. I love my own and gave one to my parents and daughter. The short story is: * Good / accurate directions (as a gps should do!) * LOVE the highway road sign pictures! * Easy to use & figure out - especially like the ability to create multi-stop routings - or add a stop along the way without having to start all over * I love the Google real-time search!!! This is every bit as good as having a 'smart phone' - current gas prices, nearby lodging, white/yellow pages lookup, etc etc * POIs even include rest areas (my preference over running into fast food joints just to... well, you know ;)) * Includes a few voices, even British and Australian... makes things a bit more interesting * From Detroit to NYC to Delaware and all points in between - ACCURATE and efficient routing If you worry about the ads, don't - you will barely even notice them, especially as they do not appear when the vehicle is moving. For the refurb units, call Garmin with an electronic copy of your receipt and they're renew the 2 year subscription to the online connections. I don't know how I will feel when that runs out and they want $5 / month... :) VERY VERY Happy with the Garmin 1690!!!!!!!!!
I was a little skeptical on purchasing a refurbished product but I couldn't have been more pleased. The Nuvi came in the original packaging which I concluded as having never been previously sold - just reworked. It easily bluetoothed to my blackberry which allows hands-free phone calls. I did have to contact Garmin to extend the initial service agreement from the purchase date (it had an initial activation a year prior). Just last week, while on my way to Whittier Narrows golf course the Nuvi circumnavigated the traffic jam caused my a bridge outage on the 60 freeway. It saved me a lot of aggravation. Initializing the unit and downloading the current maps were a little tedious and took awhile. The mount to my windshield worked very well. I'm very please.
In PA the unit got it self lost, tried to send us on a closed off dead end road, keeps wanting to send you on local roads as fastest way and has you go past every Walmart possible in your diving range. Hint hint!
