We just bought this to replace the GE refrigerator purchased in 1997. Compared to our old refrigerator, this one has cheaper components (the deli drawer is lightweight and flimsy). The tiny shelf on the bottom of the drawer is odd--we have small bottled drinks in it, but it is definitely not an ideal design. The shelf above it protrudes out farther than the other shelf. The crisper/vegetable/fruits drawers stick out farther than the old model, and, with the big shelf in the door protruding out, there are limits to how much can be put on the shelf that holds those drawers. The motor/compressor on this refrigerator is louder than my old refrigerator. It's ok, but I haven't gotten used to it yet. The exterior is very nice. The refrigerator and freezer are both working as they should and are keeping our food at the right temperature. So that is the overall goal. I just wish the drawer for deli was not so flimsy.
The fridge is much louder than I expected, quite a bit louder than the 20 year old fridge I replaced with it. It seems to work just fine and I was very happy to find a reasonably priced fridge with both a butter dish and a cheese drawer. My only real complaint so far other than thr noise is the extreme difficulty I've had removing the plastic wrap from the front, it is very hard to get off.
We use this fridge in the garage. Our 38 year old one finally quit us. It's a fridge. It gets cold. The freezer section, well it freezes. One problem tho. When we close the fridge door the freezer door pops open a bit. About half the time the freezer door re-closes OK. The other half it doesn't! It stays open about a 1/4” and the compressor runs and runs and runs. We have to make sure this doesn't happen every time. Kind of a pain and really shouldn't happen but you know how things are these days!!
We have a GE Fridge (Model BF-18V) that is over 40 years old & still running, but due to age & questionable access to a new model, we decided to buy another GE. Our old fridge is still plugging along in our milk barn. This is a larger GE...with much deeper shelves. I like the configuration of the shelves/drawers & ability to change when needed. Also freezer in larger & have put in a wire shelf to add more storage space. Love the white...our old one was turning slightly yellow. I like the ease of changing the temperature controls to make freezer colder. Needless to say, it seems to "run" less that the 40+ fridge, so it will help on the utility bill. Love the glass shelves, as our old one had wire shelves. We are definitely GE people - have 20 year old Profile cooktop, microwave, dishwasher & oven.
Back in the old days when a refrigerator lasted 30 or 40 years, I would be happy to review immediately. But today it is not realistic to do so due to government operating requirements. Ask me in 10 years and if it is still operating as it is today, I will happily give a top rating.
