I replaced an old Gibson dehumidifier. The GS 50 is made very well. It is much quieter than the old unit and uses less power. The humidity setting works very well as it cycles on and off from the changing humidity. I use it with the hose that empties into a sink in my basement. It puts out more water than the old unit. You will need to read the instructions carefully to set it properly. It has many variations for operation that make it flexible but set up requires understanding the way it operates. I removed the wheels to put it on a shelf. I suggest they make the wheels easier to remove. You can bend the tabs that hold the wheels on with a screw driver. Then they twist off leaving a flat bottom on the case. I would recommend this unit to any one.

I could write for 1/2 an hour...however I will just choose to give it TEN STARS and let you fill in the gaps. I bought a "more nationally know brand" and returned it as I thought it just wasn't working---maybe not,.... but I have to empty this one +- every 8 hours...it's incredible and has made my quality of life so much better. HIGHLY RECOMMEND; Only fall back: it is difficult to get the bottom open to empty..will call manufacturer for pointers!!

We have had two of these dehumidifiers within four years. The product did what it was supposed to do for six to eight months. Usually during the winter months it doesn't take much water in so I wasn't concerned but after four months in the spring and summer time of not ever emptying the bucket we became concerned. We decided to spend the money again for another one and it worked for about a year and now I am experiencing the same problem. We are having a very humid time of the year right now and my rec room is starting to smell musty. I wouldn't recommend this product unless you are ok with purchasing one every year. I can't afford to do that. So now I am going to stear clear of goldstar and find another brand, I will probably pay around $300 but it will be worth it.

Like those of most of the reviewers who have had this product for more than a few months, mine is dying. I thought it worked great the first few months, then it got louder and now the fan works but either the compressor is not coming on or the refrigerant has leaked out. I keep it plugged in year round but it generally only comes on during the humid summer months. I have had other ones that have worked for decades. I hope I can get them to back up the 1 year warranty.

I think that this product works extremely well. My wife and I just bought a house which is where we use this and it works extremely well. We can fill the resevior in about 24 hours. The only downside is that it is a little noisy on hardwood floors but that is a small price to pay for the job that it does.
