I use my temp sensors to monitor and prioritize specific rooms. I check how cold my basement is so i know the pipes are safe. The main way i use this is to prioritize my infant son's room. His room was always too cold or too hot. Now i set my thermostat based on his room because hes the top priority and his room stays just right.
We just moved into a two story house and the thermostat is on the second floor. We got a sensor for downstairs because the floors have 2-4 degree difference throughout the day. When we're downstairs during the day it's much more energy efficient to just cool to what's comfortable downstairs. Sensor has been great!
I got a three-pack of these sensors and boy have they made a difference. With the variation in temperatures throughout the house due to solar exposure or drafts, these give the Thermostat a much better handle on what's going on and where. They have made our whole system much more efficient overall. I would recommend these in any house setting with 3 or more bedrooms or multiple zones.
We would have to crank the heat up to 80+ degrees on the thermostat to get the house to feel like 70. We learned it was a combination of things, being in direct sunlight and being installed directly behind a radiator steam pipe in the wall that was affecting the temperature. This small Nest Temperature Sensor solved the issue!
I have a 6 zone hydronic propane fired boiler which used to burn out circulating pumps often (every other year). These pumps should last years if not a decade, but because of the programs written for other smart thermostats, these units would go on and off so frequently, they burn the motors out. With the Nest program, the heating time is applied for longer intervals based on outside temps.
