I have purchased several of these shelve units over the years and have had good experience assembling and using them. Yes, a shelve must be placed at the joint of the upper and lower sections. However, two sections allow flexibility to assemble one tall or two shorter shelves. As far as difficulty of assembly . . . Well I know I shouldn't attempt doing my income taxes and perhaps some people shouldn't attempt assembling things.

Buyers beware ! This shelving unit is in 2 pieces. The 4 upright posts are not 6' tall as one might expect by the description or better lack of description. To use this unit as a 6' rack you have to put a shelf where the 2 join, maybe not where you want the shelf to be. I could of saved shipping charges and waiting 12 days by going to Lowes or Home Depot and pick up the same thing.

Bought four of these--they came yesterday, had them fully assembled in about an hour--all four sets! Liked them so much that I ordered 5 more! Be sure to have your rubber mallet for assembly. They're not SUPER tough like the expensive ones, but each shelf will hold a ton of stuff and up to 700 pounds each. No screws--everything slides together--much easier than we thought it would be. 24 inch deep shelves are nice too.

These are great shelves. They are actually the 5th & 6th set we've purhcased. They are extremely sturdy, easy to assemble. They're awesome! The only things that would make them better is if the shelf boards were had a more durable coating and if we could have purchased in-store of having to have them shipped.
