This is the first new iron I've owned in over 10 years. Boy am I happy to have the Hamilton Beach Chrome Electronic Iron 14955 is the best iron I've ever had. The steam capability is like nothing I ever had. It has a very powerful blast of steam and has spray and vertical steam, which is great for steaming without ironing. I had great results with every item I used it with. I love that it's anti-drip which means no burns from hot water. The retractable cord is a first for me. I love the fact that I don't have to wrap the cord around the iron. The stainless steel soleplate is so smooth on fabrics. The electronic controls are great, another first on any iron I've owned. This iron makes ironing so much easier with all the great features. I love this iron.
One of the chores I dislike the most is ironing and I avoid it as much as possible. However - there are clothes that need to be ironed - especially linen and cotton. My old iron was leaking water whenever I pressed on the steam mode so I was ready for a new model. This Hamilton Beach Durathon Digital is a great iron. I usually prefer the simple turn a dial type product but the digital heat settings are SO easy to use and it heats up quickly. It was so easy to remove the wrinkles and creases in my linen pants and my husbands cotton shirts - very happy about that. I also like the retractable cord - no more wrapping the cord around the iron. Only negative is that it is a little heavy. I still do not like to iron but it is less of a chore with this product.
I really like the color but more importantly I love this iron. I had a badly wrinkled shirt that I could not get the wrinkles out of no matter what. I used this iron and the steamer on the shirt and within about 15 minutes the shirt was wrinkle free and looked perfect. Ironing creases in jeans is a breeze with this iron. I hope to be able to get one for my Daughter for Christmas. It is very lightweight and easy to use. It is perfect. The retractable cord is great. No more need to wrap the cord around the iron.
There are lots of good things about this iron, and a couple things that make it hard to use. Basic info for this product includes a 98-inch (about 2.5-meter) fully extended cord. The digital panel allows you to choose by pressing a button what kind of fabric you're be ironing (linen, wool, synthetic, etc). What I like is that at a glance based on the color of the panel light, you can tell the basic temperature of the iron. Blue = cool or off / Pinky-purple = warm / Red = hot. There is an automatic off function which provides great peace of mind. The retractable cord is really nice for easy storage. The cord does retract all the way. The two things I don't like about this iron mainly revolves around adding water. The cap covering the opening is fine, but the iron doesn't include a small cup for more controlled pouring. Maybe I'm just a bad aim, but I had a hard time pouring in the water. When I finally got the water in I think my 5-year-old could have done better. It's just not very easy. Maybe if I used a funnel? The other problem is the purple color of this iron makes it hard to see the water level as you're filling up. I can see the "max" line clearly marked, but I had to keep looking from different angles to see how much water I'd already put in. The designers could have left a clear strip along the purple to make it easier to see the water level. Using this iron is pretty standard. It is a little heavier, so I felt like the iron could do more of the "pressing" work rather than trying to push on it myself. The special Soleplate that covers the metal iron plate seems like a great feature for keeping the iron clean and streak free. That's a problem I've had with other irons, burning something onto the plate and then smearing marks onto my clothing. This iron hasn't done that. Overall, I like this iron, but it's not my favorite. I may have to ask my kids to help me pour in the water....
When I received the iron I had my doubts because of its heaviness. I think its because the cord is inside the iron. I've used the iron and it heats up quickly ( after you turn it on by using the select button to pick your fabric), until you do this the iron will not come on. It coated flat surface makes ironing a breeze . I love the steam feature for all things but especially for steaming finished knit & crocheted items. The steam jets are strong & when you set the iron on end & pick it up again you don't have to wait for steam again, its there right away. I love having the cord wind button so when done just unplug from the wall & push the button & let it do its job, the cord is nice & long giving me plenty of room to work the iron. This makes storing the iron sooooo much easier ! It's performance is wonderful ! The color of purple is nice, some will love the option to choose a color & you might also. If you have a shortage of plug ins at your residence the longer cord will come in handy.
