HART Compound Action Diagonal Pliers with Molded Handles, Chrome Vanadium

I bought this tool to replace a Kobalt tool that has lasted many years. The head on the tool is identical in size to the smaller model. I expected it to be larger. The handle is not solid metal but seems to be strong enough. I have not yet tried to cut anything like a nail, but works great on large copper wire.

These are called diagonal pliers because the flat side of the cutting blades is at an angle to the handles. The tilted handles let you grip and squeeze to flush-cut items on a solid surface. These HART diagonal pliers are about 7 inches long. They are very nice looking. The molded handles give them a comfy grip and the latch locks the handle in the closed position when not in use. They spring open on their own when unlatched but they open a bit too wide. It's probably designed that way to provide more force. These pliers are made of chrome vanadium which is a type of steel. All the diagonal pliers I looked at are made of some type of steel whether it's tempered steel, high-carbon, or nickel-chromium so I guess steel is the standard for this type of tool for durability and rust resistance. These pliers worked great at cutting through small pins, nails, screws, mesh wire, cables, and fasteners. They will cut through heavier gauge metal but you have to experiment to find their limit and you will know the limit when the blades start to chip and scratch. I was impressed with how easy these pliers cut through softer metal but I was a bit disappointed when the blades chipped and scratched cutting through some bigger screws.
