HEARTLAND 21000 Dryer Vent Closure

I installed this a week ago with ease. Vent works perfectly and two coats of paint and it matches the house.

The installation is somewhat more complex than a flapper on a pipe but is not challenging. The device needs to be plumb to work perfectly. If you can do that, you will have an energy efficient, easily cleanable, long lasting dryer vent. It must be painted before installation and as such, use masking tape to keep the paint off areas you do not want to be painted.

After 12 years of exposure to the outside, only the cover needed replacing though the plastic body did discolor somewhat, so this is an exact replacement. It is ideal in that it keeps out the elements, protects from rodents, nesting birds, insects, need I say more. The plastic body is lightweight and strong but the mounts are still plastic and one should avoid overtightening the screws to avoid cracking from unnecessary pressure. Caution should be used when removing the plastic lid now and them for the occasional removal of lint. The plastic lid may be somewhat thinner and prone to cracking. Perhaps the smallest amount of of soap along the inside rim might alleviate that problem. Attempts to support local first went unsuccessful though Walmart.com carried the item at an excellent price. It arrived at my local store quicker than originally anticipated and am very pleased.

Works great. For vinyl siding you will need a vent face plate. This puts the vent out from the siding about 1.75 inches at the top. You will need to put a spacer between the top bracket and where it gets screwed into the siding. I cut off two pieces of hard plastic tubing and used that. I sprayed the vent with krylon plastic paint so it's the same color as my siding. The tubing was also sprayed. PVC piping or plastic conduit would also work for a spacer.

Requires some work with siding for cosmetic appearance but worth every cent. Excellent product and quality.
