Don't dismiss this set because you've never heard of Hisense or because of it's low price. We were looking fo a new TV after a cat took a swipe at our older 32" flat screen. There was this nice tornado looking shadow in the lower right corner. Our small house won't accomate anything larger than about 42" to 46" TV. After looking at the TV"s at Walmart. We settled on the 42" Hisense. It had, to our eyes, the best picture of any TV there. We got it home and plugged in to our DirecTV box. After a few adjustments, which I managed myself, we had it up and running. My only complaints are the sound (tinny)and no optical out for a home theater. Trying to find a hdmi home theater is nearly impossible. I've plugged my 30 watt Logitech Z323 speakers into the headphone jack and they don't sound bad. There is an adjustment for the sound in the menu and it helps somewhat. Hook your satallite/cable box via hdmi to the top hdmi port and make any adjustments you want via the menu. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this TV.
I was at my local Walmart and they had this TV on sale because it was a display model. I wasn't sure about the TV but for the price I couldn't resist. Like other purchasers, there was a clicking or popping sound when I changed the channel. I went directly to the site, downloaded the firmware on my jump drive and plugged that into the TV. Once the update processed and I powered the TV back on, everything was great. http://hisense-usa.com/support/firmware.asp This is definitely a great TV. The picture is amazing and for me the sound is perferct (I'm not too keen on the TV being loud so my volume is never past about 14 so no problems there#. The TV is very thin, there is a swivel base, 3 HDMI ports, a USB port for service #firmware updates) and AV ports. I would definitely recommend it.
I compared this TV with Visio, Sony and LG in the same price range -with HiSense being on the low end - and I am quite pleased with my purchase. What really made this TV/Model especially atttractive for me was the very slim design (half or less the width of the Visio) and the fact the stand was an easy to use "swivel" stand, so I don't have to move the entire base. Had plenty of connectivity, including VGA for older systems to plug into. (I would prefer the cable plug-in to be on the bottom as opposed to the side, as cables tend to be inflexible and perhaps are visible somewwhat.) Also, it has an LED/LCD screen, which is really a blend of the better technologies. LED adds brightness. Speakers are in the back, not front, so don't expect superior sound projection without adding speakers. BTW, the 3 year extended warranty on this model was less than more costly ones, so I am quite pleased with the TV, warranty and value overall.
While I have only had this set for about 4 days now, I have to exclaim - WOW! Even seeing this set in Walmart beside the other sets, you can see the exceptional whiteness, colors and clarity. I noticed that it wasn't even connected with HDMI cable in the store. At home and connected to HDMI, the picture is excellent! No distortion of motion during HDMI channel changes, excellent picture! The sound quality many have described, I don't see to be an issue. The popping when changing channels is there, HOWEVER IF YOU CALL HISENSE, THEY WILL EMAIL YOU A FIRMWARE UPDATE WHICH WILL COMPLETELY RESOLVE THAT! It is simple to update, however since I had to go through those steps in the first place, that is the only reason I am giving it a "Good" rating instead of "Excellent".
this tv has even surprised me, and i have had at least 10 tv's in my life (4th flat screen). my other current tv is a sanyo 50" 720p plasma, and this tv blows it away in every stat besides sound, and the sound is really good on this tv, just doesn't get super loud like my other tv can, but you don't need it any louder than this..unless your hard of hearing. Plus this tv can be turned up or down in volume faster than any tv i have ever seen, seriously, like a second holding down or up the volume button and a goes hecka fast. the led display looks awesome, i have a ps3 hooked up via hdmi and its a huge upgrade from my plasma. one complaint is the lack of normal L and R audio out, it just has one digital audio out, i dont have a receiver, so i can hook up my surround sound, but i just hook my ps3 video to the tv with the hdmi and use the other cable from my ps3 to hook up the sound directly to my surround. but i also have a wdtv live and have the sound just running through the tv, which is, dont get me wrong, perfectly fine, just make sure to turn on the surround sound option in the menus. the remote is sleek and easy to hold. and this tv is crazy thin, like a little over an inch thick and easily mounted to my swivel tv stand. and last of all, the price, 400 is crazy for a 42 in. LED 1080p tv!!! hope this helps.
