I spend a lot of time cooking outdoors, grilling steaks or roasting chestnuts "on an open fire". I spend a lot of time at the smoker and on the charcoal grill too. It's what I do. I bought these gloves because I was tired of getting small burns on my hands and arms or having to use bulky oven mitts or tools to tend to my cooking fires and equipment. These gloves have proven to not only be very good protection, but the tighter fit allows me to be nimble and actually use my hands, and they protect me all the way up the forearm.
I've have different types of welding gloves. Most do the job ok. These are my go to gloves. Actually this is the second pair of these I bought. My past pair wore out after 3 years.....actually was sloppy with a grinder over and over again and...well...they need to be replaced. These just seem to fit well, and the leather, although thick/insulated seems easier to move in. Nice gloves. I'll buy them again
I don't do welding but anybody who heats with wood has suffered the pain of a burn on their wrist putting wood in the fire. These are a bit pricey but are better quality and have stood up to the wear that wood with coarse bark can dish out.
I got these for my bday gift, i used the right hand glove to pivot my left hand on some light duty Flux core welding, (lawnmower deck) and the right hand glove literally started on fire after 20 seconds of welding!!! and they fit small, i could barely move my fingers but i never got the chance to break them in. Do yourself a favor buy the Steiner $6 gloves, i did after these Hobarts and they feel good and have lasted ! sometimes cheaper is better Hobart 190 MIG Miller 325 Extreme Plasma
I have several pair of the stiff hoghide gloves, and they are fine for using my stick welder or cutting torch, but operating the trigger on the MIG and Plasma Cutter I found they were just too stiff an bulky. I can easily operate the triggers with these gloves without accidentally bumping it due to excessive bulk. Good heat protection as well. I was concerned they wouldn't do that well, but they do.
