H&R Block - Tax Software Premium & Business 2024 - Windows

I bought this software last year because I have to file a partnership return and the business and personal package combined was very economical. However, the downloaded package seems to be a little less user friendly than the .com package...my sister have the latter so I see it every year too. It is also disappointing that I could not file my Alabama return online. That meant I had to print a significant number of pages and pay to mail that in via USPS...very expensive!

All in the software worked well except the rental portion. The depreciation would not put a unique depreciation for each property. I had to use a different software to file the taxes for the client with rental property. Otherwise, the software was excellent as usual.

I have been a Mac user since the original had no hard drive. I have used Parallels and Windows on my Mac and sometimes it works okay and sometimes it's a real challenge. I have ended up buying two Windows machines just to do the business returns because of glitches with using it on a Mac and because the first machine, after a year, couldn't handle the new software - so it has been expensive. If there were a Mac version, I would likely be giving it a 5 instead of a 3.

The program did the job fine. There were two things that I found frustrating. When I want to print the forms, I am not given the option of printing them back to back. Mailing and storing 19 pieces of paper is better than 38 pieces, not to mention the waste of paper with printing on one side. Also, when paying taxes due with a credit card, it would have been VERY nice to have been warned that we would automatically be charged a 2.9% convenience fee. It was only after the fact that this was stated and by then it was too late to cancel the transaction.

I have been using the software for a few years now since switching from Taxcut. I like that the price is reasonable. What I don't like and could be better is getting to forms that I want to double check and returning to exactly where I left off. When jumping back to a form I have to go through all the steps after that point that I already answered. Otherwise it's been a good app for me.
