Replaced a "clean weekly, filter" humidifier with this one for my 2 yr. old granddaughter. The maintenance was very limited and I do know it lasted a minimum of 20 months, but then my daughter said it began to leak. My daughter ran it year round at night & at naptime on the weekend. My granddaughter attends childcare and only had a couple of runny noses, but had "no" colds to speak of during the time this humidifier was used. My daughter says she needs to get another one because the little one has had constant colds since it broke. I was very impressed with the use and results.

About 7 months ago I purchased this product, and what can I tell you besides it is my saving grace. I sleep with it every night. This humidifier gives me the relief I need since I have allergies, and sinus problems. before I had this product I was constantly waking up with a dry throat and a stuffy nose, and over all feeling run down... Then when I got this humidifier within 2 weeks I really started to notice a difference... I was able to sleep better, and wake up feeling like I was ready for the day... Just make sure you do not have it on all day because you want some dryness in the air... The best time to have it on is when you are sleeping so you wake up refreshed...or use as needed... But this product Rocks!

I was impressed in that this product did not "mist" all over my furniture as they did in the early days of humidifiers. The air was remarkably more moist. I am writing this review because I was searching for a new unit for my dad who suffers from COPD and lives in Arizona where the air is dry as can be. I saw all the negative feedback and was amazed. My unit works well. It is not noiseLESS however its soft hum is worth the moist air and relief it supplies.

I have owned 2 of these. The first one I didn't maintain. It's care-free, remember? Then, when it quit working (6 months), I took it apart and the permanent elements (metal sponge things) were crumbling apart, and the motor was burned out. So, I got another one and maintained it. I washed the permanent elements, cleaned out the slime, etc... but, the permanent elements would never come entirely clean. After 4 months, they are permanently coated in some gunk that resists vinegar, the dishwasher, and solvents. New permanent elements are about $40 for the pair... just about what I paid for the whole thing new. Here's the deal: This thing is as much an air filter as a humidifier. If your air is very clean, this unit is probably a good deal. If you have pets, smokers, if you fry food, then the elements will clog every 2 weeks. When they clog, the water backs up and comes out the sides, all over your table and floor. They are impossible to clean completely, just enough to go another 2 weeks. Overall, a nice idea poorly done. Unless you have a very clean house, you should buy something else. Oh, yeah, this thing is loud too. It will disrupt conversations across a room.

I purchased this humidifier over 2 years ago from Walmart. I had tried the Vick's and Robitussin brand and they broke after the first 6 months of using. My children have very bad allergies and the last thing I need is bacteria floating in a fine mist in my house. I noticed this had an anti bacteria coating and there was no filter to purchase. It also had a medicine cup. I was sold! I have used this product constantly and within an hour of running it I have noticed a difference in the air and I can breath. It also cuts down on my children's cough when they are sick. I absolutely recommend this product to anyone. I have never noticed any pinkish mold or bacteria growth on the product and cleaning is a cinch.
