I purchased this small freezer because I stock up on turkeys before Thanksgiving when they are so inexpensive. It holds the ones I bought as well as other things which now gives me more room in the refrigerator's freezer for seasonal cooking, etc. At first glance I thought it was going to be too small but it holds plenty. I bought two of them, one for the home and one for the vacation home. After reading another review, one of them will be used in the camper once we retire and hit the road! The only problem was shipping. The carton they arrived in would probably do fine for picking up in a store but the straps were loose and the freezer sits directly on a Styrofoam base that is unconnected to the box. Cut the straps, lift the box off and you have unpacked the freezer. Unfortunately, both were dented upon receipt. We like the freezers enough to keep them anyway. The placement of each made it not so noticeable but we were lucky in that it could be hidden while still placing properly for air flow, etc.
I was in need of an extra freezer but I didnt was to break the piggy bank in buying a large upright freezer...This Igloo 3.6 cu. ft freezer it meets my perfectly the size is perfect and it CERTAINLY maintains its temperture regardless of what setting you have it on....The weight was minimal so it was easy to transport and even easier to get it in my basement...its JUST what I needed !!!
After reading other reviews on this product, my husband and I decided to pick it up at the store because of flimsy packaging. When he and our neighbor brought it into the house, I was surprised by how well it was actually boxed up. He definitely needed help bringing it in (don't have a dolly) because the box was bulky. Opened up the box and had a lot of styrofoam on the sides and a big tray on the bottom. Company must have taken the complaints about flimsy packaging seriously. I followed the directions of making sure it was never tilted, left it plugged in at 4 for 24 hours, and filled it up the next day with a meat package. Turned it up a little, and it's been working like a charm for the past week. No complaints so far. Wish I could have afforded to get the next size up, but packed right, this little thing holds 60 pounds of various cuts of meat (many of them bulky roasts), frozen pizzas, bags of chicken nuggets, and boxes of Popsicles and ice cream sandwiches. Definitely worth considering if you have a smaller family and need more than your fridge's freezer.
I just wanted to say first of all, thank you Wal-Mart Customer Care service online, they have help me tremendously with my issue on my Igloo chest freezer I had ordered online and pick it up at my Wal-Mart store here in Georgia. When I got it home and unpacked it, I found some damage to the freezer, there was 2 dents and crack on the sides at the bottom left and right side, this had to be damaged during shipping, I was disappointed to find this damage on my new freezer that I just purchased. It looked like it was not packaged right and it was damaged in shipping it. I did not want to return it back to the store, I want to keep it, only wanted to know if the Customer Care service would adjust me in anyway with a discount on my purchase, I sent an email in to them Saturday morning to ask them to advise me on the issue. I received a response from the Walmart Customer Care, they are offering me a discount in gift card for the damages. I am very happy to say Thank you so much for everything. I want to also say thank you to the sales associate at Wal-Mart store #3388 in the pickup area for helping me, and getting someone to help me out to my car with the freezer. This has been a great service from Walmart. I will let everyone know about my experience with this. Plus I had my neighbor help me get the freezer in my house and set up, and they saw the damages too, and I will let them know what took place to resolve this issue. I've read all the bad reviews here about shipping damage, but I thought over a couple of years of reviews that someone would have gotten their act together. I did a ship-to-store, and the box arrived in fairly poor shape. Walmart shipped via fedex, and whoever packaged this thing, well, didn't. It was sent without any other box than the flimsy product packaging. Either it had sat in water or was drained in the box, because the entire bottom of the packaging was warped and full of awful mildew. I opened the box to find multiple dents and collapse damage at the edges, chipped paint, and the bottom looked like a crumpled recycled can with dried liquid foam pouring out numerous holes. No care had been taken to protect the plug, so it was pressed and the grounding prong was missing. This seems like a quality product, and if you read the reviews of it on other sites, they lack the numerous shipping damage notes. I'm thinking this might be a Walmart problem. You can't just throw this around trucks and stores without properly packaging it. They don't do it with TV's, and they shouldn't do it with these freezers. I returned it today and did a price match with another company. Hopefully they take a little more care in shipping it.
