iOptron 9200 LiveStar Mini Planetarium

My eight-year-old couldn't wait to get this as a present! It was the first thing in the gift pile she wanted to use. And it held her attention -- for about five minutes! She had been eager to learn the basics of astronomy -- the names and positions of some constellations and planets -- and observe the changing of the night sky. We (perhaps foolishly) thought the projection would be labelled in some way for easy identification, but you must cross-reference with documents in the dark. And the changes in the sky over time are too subtle for most young children (or me, frankly) to get excited about. All in all, I agree with the reviewer who called this a fancy but expensive night-light. My daughter was equally excited to return it for a better present!

I bought this for my 8 year old grandson for Christmas. He absolutely loves it. We turn it on and he points at the constellations and I tell him what they are on the globe. He (and I) have also picked out some of the constellations in the night sky. Way cool product.

My 9 year-old daughter really loved it but unfortunately, one of the dials on the side was broken when it arrived so it did not rotate properly. It should have been shipped in an additional box (instead of just the manufacturers box) to keep from breaking as it is somewhat of a fragile item.

My 12 yr old son fell in love with this product. Personally, I thought it was too light weight for the price. I thought it would be made of at least a thin metal, but only plastic. Light weight usually means that it tears up easily. Luckily I opted in for the $6 extended warranty before even knowing this information. Hopefully I will not have to use it. All in all it is a fun product that my son will cherish for a long time. Very easy to use, fun for the family to enjoy.

Got it when my son was about to learn the nightly sky in his science class. Brought to his class several times. Kids love it.
