I've been doing DIY projects for 50 years and spray painting was always my last resort for painting furniture, toys, etc. The finish was never smooth and took so long to dry that bugs, dust and debris was always embedded by the time it was dry enough to handle. Not anymore!! Follow the directions for prepping the surface and for ambient temperature, humidity and wind speed, and watch a smooth, professional finish develop before your eyes. My husband works for a major manufacturer of automotive finishing products and even he was amazed. I've used more than a dozen cans of this paint in various finishes [glossy, metallic, satin, etc] over the past year, painting everything from brass cranes to wooden tables and have only had one failure. Obviously the nozzle was bad and the paint spit in large globs and droplets all over me, the floor and the frame I was painting. Recommend you do a test spray over lawn or covered surface before aiming at the object to be painted. [The store gave me a full refund for the messy can I returned.]. Other than that one negative event, everything I've painted has had a smooth, factory finish at the end, with the gloss level accurate and durability great. In addition, it comes in a wide variety of colors, so I'm able to match even unusual shades of colors used in a room. Highly recommended!!
After using Rustoleum and experiencing bad results, I decided to give Krylon a try. BEST DECISION EVER. The nozzle sprays evenly and just the right amount so I never experienced any run or drip, and I didn't have to worry if I was spraying too close. Sprayed 1 tacky coat, then 2 wet coats 10 minutes apart, and let it dry for two days. Then sanded with 600 and I never had any issues with the next layers, in fact the newer coats ended up even nicer. After I sprayed my color, although it was suggested not to, I applied Clear Gloss on top of it the same way, about 10-12 coats (3 per day), and let it dry for a week after the final spray. Then I sanded with 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit and then hand buffed and polished. I never thought I could have this finish quality without a spray booth or spray guns. Patience is the key. Also read weather and humidity conditions before you spray, it seriously can affect your project.
Using this paint to restore Vintage tools, The paint coats evenly and dries well. After reading the reviews on this paint, i have to say i can't see any flaws with this product. I think the other people who have used this product and left negative remarks don't seem to understand that before you apply this product to something. You have to clean what you will be painting with Denatured Alcohol or Mineral Spirits first. The paint wont stick if what you are painting is covered in crud.
It worked on a small test sample of plastic but was a disaster on the actual model sailboat hull. As much as I hated Krylon Fusion, Colormaster is even worse. It runs, takes many, many, many, many ... coats. It lays down inconsistently with some smooth patches but mostly orange peel. Read the other reviews (wish I had) and do not use this junk. It should be taken off the market!
I am a designer and DIYer. I bought a can of colormaster spray paint to cover 2 small chairs. I used almost the entire can on one coat on one chair and it's super streaky. It's very thin and runny. The only positive is that it does dry quickly and has a nice finish touch when dry. I am very upset because now I have ruined a chair.
