this Janome is onky 12 pounds great to take to my sewing group, comes with extension table and hard cover and accessories, does a perfect stitch, i highly recommend
I purchased and returned a computerized brother and Janome machine before settling on this model. It's the first time that I tried the Janome brand. It's sturdy, quiet, and has a very good stitch quality. It also comes with an extension table and many accessories! I was able to set it so that it always stops with a needle in the down position. I haven't figured out how to turn off the beeping sound yet, but there's probably a way. It has a high and wide area to the right of the needle, which allows a lot of space for quilted or bulky projects. The only thing missing is an automatic thread cutter.
A good machine, however the description was misleading. It says it comes with an "Assorted Needle Set", which means a variety of needles. In fact, it only comes with four 14/90 needles, one of them mounted on the machine. "7-Piece Feed Dog System" suggests that the 7 pieces can move independently, offering differential feed at a minimum. In fact, the 7 are just sections of the same piece of metal which stick out through the needle plate in 7 places. The manual does not provide any information on the majority of stitches, and does not even explain what the letters "L", "M", "R", and "P" mean, or what the bidirectional arrows and other symbols mean. The stitch pattern card could easily have been printed on the machine, in larger size, saving the expense of two additional parts which often get in the way when sewing or when replacing the dust cover. I also felt that there could have been more functional stitches instead of some of the decorative stitches.
I ordered this machine because it had the right foot for hemming thick jeans! My other machine got struck by lightning and it got the mother board and I learned a lesson to always unplug when not in use!
This machine is very easy to use. It comes with everything you need to make your project. I pulled it out of the box and started to sew and I have never use a machine that is so easy to use. I have had other machines that it takes month to learn to use them, and there is always something that is not quite right with my projects in the end. This machine comes with a needle threader, drop in bobbin, and a collection of presser feet to help you get your job done in a jiffy. Love Janome machines, I've been using them for two years now, and they are great. They come ready and you don't need to buy accessories seperatly in order to use the machine.
