Product Details

The Kidde Hardwired Smoke Detector with 9-Volt Battery Backup (Included), Front-Load Battery Door, Test-Silence Button, model i4618, is a smoke detector that uses ionization sensor technology to detect invisible fire particles (associated with fast flaming fires). When smoke or fire is detected, an 85-decibel alarm will sound. The Kidde Smoke Detector is powered by a 120V power source with a 9-volt, alkaline battery backup, which provides coverage during a power failure. A red LED indicates that the smoke detector is sensing smoke or fire. A test-hush button allows you to test the battery operations as well as silence nuisance alarms that may occur from cooking or shower steam. The Kidde Smoke Detector will chirp when it's time to replace the battery. Install a smoke detector & carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home and near bedrooms to help keep your family safe from fire & poisonous gas. UL Listed with a 10-Year limited manufacturer warranty on the alarm only (not a battery performance claim). Warranty begins when the alarm is powered on. If that date is unknown, it should be assumed that replacement is needed. Meets requirements of UL 217, NFPA72 (chapter 11 2002 edition), NFPA101 (One and two-family dwellings), and Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

False alarms at 2:00 a.m. these trigger randomly at 2:00 a.m. no fire no nothing alert it. We pressed the buttons to hush and then reset them all and they still go off. We then went to a 24-hour supermarket to get new batteries, replaced all the batteries and it still goes off. Had to get the fire brigade out due to CO2 concern. Nothing. There has to be far better products than these. This has happened more than once. We replaced batteries every 6 months and check test them regularly

Just moved in house. I have 3 of these, maybe 2 months old at the most. Had to remove one because it keeps going off. Not chirping, alarming for 5 seconds then quit. Horrible.

Brand new house. Brand new smoke detectors. 2 of them are randomly giving off alarms. Not impressed with these. Had kiddie brand in our old house and we'd have them go off for no reason too. It's 2025, you would think we would have perfected smoke detectors by now.

Please seek alternatives. Late 2024 new home build features four of these miserable units. From installation, battery life has only been 6-months. False alarms a frequent problem despite vacuumizing & canned air flushing of the units. Product does not allow for longer lasting lithium batteries, ensuring "chirps," usually around 3:00 AM as the battery fails. Removing the battery will not stop the "chirp," as it's designed to sound if you try to leave the battery out of the unit.
