Kidde Firex Photoelectric Hardwired Smoke Alarm With Battery Back-up

I had purchased the Kidde Firex Smoke Alarm because it showed that it was easy to install. I want to say that it is easy to install if you know how to install electric devices or you have some knowledge like an electrician. The Kidde Fire Alarm does come with everything you need to install it properly, so you don't have to go back to the store to purchase anything. This Fire Alarm is hardwired into your electric. Once I had it installed, I found that it worked well. The Fire Alarm easily turns to disengage from the mounting ring to change the 9 volt battery which is a back up system for when and if your electric goes off for some reason. It has an indicator light that shows it it functioning. There is also a test button on it to check the device weekly to ensure it is operating well. I read the instructions before hand and found to prevent the Fire Alarm from activating when you burn food you need to use a fan or your hood range while cooking. I used to live in a trailer and the darn Smoke detector alarm kept going off if any food boiled over onto the burner! This information would have been handy to say the least! The loud shrill of the Kidde Fire Alarm will wake you during your sleep, as a matter of fact it is so loud I think it could wake the dead! There is a nice section in the manual which offers good safety habits to practice and what to do if the alarm sounds. I highly recommend the Kidde Fire Alarm for your home especially if you don't have a Fire Alarm system already.

Replaced a larger battery only detector in my upstairs landing. I like the smaller diameter and the fact that it is hardwired with a battery backup. No more chirping in the middle of the night to tell me the battery is low. Unless of course, it is . But being hard wired the battery should seldom be needed. We do have periodic power outages here in Southern California due to weather so the battery will definitely be a plus. I like redundancy. The hookup was easy. The pig tail is removable ( see pic) so you can do the wiring without having to hold the heavier detector. Directions were good and actually needed due to a second hot that I was unsure what to do with. Did the smoke test with a burned piece of paper and it did its job. Also tried the test button and it worked too. I recommend the detector and if you don't want to hard wire it then you can just use the battery as a stand alone. Good to have options.

I replaced an older unit with this Kidde Firex Photoelectric Smoke Alarm. The model I replaced was a KN-COSM-IBA and was also a CO detector. This new Kidde Firex Model #p12040 is not a CO detector, so I gave up that feature in the change out. The new model is compatible with my older units that are all inter connected. When I pressed the test button they all activated. This is a hard wired unit and came with the quick connect plug with 8 inch pigtail. I didn't need the included plug because it was the same as the one I already had. Installation was easy although I did need to change out the mounting bracket. Too bad they aren't all interchangeable. The plug as I said above was the same. No fire so far so I just assume it will work.

Good to have in the house, this smoke alarm does what it is supposed to. This is a hard wired alarm with a battery back up, that means you have to wire it to your existing electrical no changing the 9 volt every few years, which I like. Other then that pretty straight forward smoke alarm.

THIS ALARM WILL CERTAINLY LET YOU KNOW OF AN ISSUE WITH SMOKE. But like all kidde produtcs It's quality is legendary. This one is easy to install and to test for alarm. I feel safer because of alarms in our house. We don't have kids at home anymore, but if you do I highly recommend iinstalling these alarms. You will rest easier with them.. Fire is a bone chIlling event that is terrible to experience. I hope no one has to wittness what it does to lives and property. The cost of installing these alarms is not relavent to the peace of mind they will provide, they are worth every cent. Be safe everyone and get KIDDE smoke alarme installed today.
