This mold kit is very easy to use and the instructions were very easy to understand. You collect your samples and send in to the address given. I've sent mine recently and am waiting for the results. We had a hot water leak and are curious to see if any mold damage was done. I feel this test will show if that is the case. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a mild test kit as the company has always been reliable and the kit was very thorough and easy to understand.
The Kidde mold detection kit was well packaged. Clear instructions and easy to use collection materials were included. Instructions were simple to follow and once the samples were collected, it was easy to mail off to Alpha Energy Laboratories for accurate reading. The test kit also included a self addressed envelope. Good overall product.
I received the Kidde Mold Detection Kit and was so relieved to know that I would finally be getting some answers to the black stuff that was on the ceiling of my attic. This kit comes with everything you need to send to the laboratory for testing. The kit allows for a quick sample for visible mold colonies. All I had to do was remove the sticky test strip tape and place it on the moldy area. Once you have the tape strip, gently press the sticky side of the tape but be careful not to press hard over the sample area. if you press too hard you might crush the mold spores which may invalidate the test. You can include 6 test areas You can also use a second method of sampling by taking a bulk sample of a piece of material like a piece of carpet, tile, wood floor, etc by cutting a 2x2x.5 inch sample and place it in the plastic bag provided. You can include up to 3 bulk samples. Once you get your samples, you must mail in the samples in the envelope provided. My postage was 73 cents for one sample and you also must include $20 for each sample to be tested. In a few weeks I received an email with the results from the lab. I have included a picture of the results so you can see that they tell you if you have No, Low, Moderate or Heavy mold and the kind it is. I really like that they use these terms instead of giving a number as it is easier to understand. They also explain what the different types of mold found are and what the possible health effects might be. They give you a link to the EPA mold help guide regarding how to get rid of the mold. Overall, I would highly recommend using the Kidde Mold Detection Kit if you even suspect you have mold in your home.
When I got this testing kit I was thinking it would work to check mold in the air-such as with a Petri dish. With this kit you take the six sticky testing strips and press them to the area of concern. You then send them to the company to get the results of the strips tested. There is a $20 fee per testing strip. Being I don't have any spots in our house of visible concern I did not send in any strips. I will look for a different type of testing kit that tests the air quality.
I've looked at a variety of different mold detection kits on the market. As far as I can tell, this one is as easy to use as any of them. It has good straight forward and easy to follow instructions for use. The outer packaging plainly states the test's uses and limitations. You can use this kit to collect test samples for mold detection in areas that are clearly visible. It's not recommended for interior wall spaces or other places that are not in plain view. The manufacturer recommends leaving that up to professional home inspectors. That being said, I can see where this would be a quick, and relatively easy, answer to the questions "what kind of mold is this?" and "is the mold dangerous?" The kit includes 6 test strips and a collection card, as well as 3 bulk sample bags. These are for samples of visible mold colonies, or any discoloration or material that you feel may be contaminated by mold. The material you place in the bags might include carpet or wallpaper. After collection of the samples, you simply place them on the card, or in the bags, and place them in the preaddressed envelope to send for analysis at a lab. There is a $20 fee for each sample you want tested. This could get a little pricey if you send in all 9 samples, which would cost you $180. Not really a bad price for quick, convenient results that you'll get back in about a week. This would be a good starting point for assessing a suspected mold issue in any structure. Along with the test materials, the kit includes some informative information about molds and their effects on your health. This test could help you quickly determine if further testing or immediate action should be taken to control the mold. Could be a first step to improving your environment, which is a really good investment.
