I bought this for a gift for my boyfriend and he loves it. It's a little smaller than i expected but it's perfect for grilling at home and taking on the go. It worked out perfect for us for tailgating. Easy to put together and to clean. Versatile with grill and smoker and for the price you can't beat it. Definitely a great buy.
I used the kings ford smoker to smoke a 12pounds brisket, chicken wings and tights .the grate looks small but it can take big junks of meat!!! The brisket turned out really Good with a smoke ring, very tender.. However this smoker looses a lots of smoke through the bottom and the door( even closed). It's comes in handy!!!
It took us a while to assemble, but we did it !!! I already use it for BBQ ing' and it was great and very easy to clean !!!
I found this item to be a big pain. First and most damaging problem: the thermometer would not work. I got the thing blazing and the therm never went above 100 degrees. They said they'd send me a new one, but you know how it is when you get something new and you just want it to work. I don't feel like waiting for a replacement thermometer for who knows how long. OK, so that was the defect. Here are some other very annoying things. The manual says you can pour hot coals from your charcoal chimney (can) into the smoker. How are you supposed to do that safely when the door is on the side like that? I had to use tongs to move the charcoal into the smoker one by one. Not fun or practical at all. The manual says you have to "cure" the thing for a few hours by brushing all interior surfaces with vegetable oil and starting it. Since it said to do 2 hours at 225 and then an hour at 400, this is why I think/know that the thermometer is actually critical, unlike a regular bbq where I don't tend to use it much. OK so the whole thing is a big oily mess, I can't tell what the temp is, the water is barely boiling even after I loaded 2 cans worth of charcoal in. The whole thing is built cheaply, with the door not snugly closing. I saw a YouTube video where someone propped a metal bar up to the smoker to keep the door closed well. Plan on using a ton of charcoal and expensive wood chips, making the whole thing not cost effective at all. I'll stick with my Smokey Joe bbq. Maybe someday I'll buy a real smoker, not this cheap piece of junk. I returned the big oily mess to Walmart, even thought the manual tells you not to.
I purchased the smoker because it was affordable and I trust the Kingsford name. After two uses, the handle fell off. Also, there is no easy, safe way to remove ash while you are doing long-term smoking. I have cooked pork butt, beef brisket, pork ribs, and chicken and they have all came out excellent. For an occasional user this smoker would be fine.
