Lands' End Women's Tall Wanderweight Ultralight Packable Down Coat

I live in Southeast Florida and normally don't travel North during the cold months so no need for a "heavy" winter coat. However, we had a business event in Boston last week and I needed a coat so I bought this coat. When I received it, I though.... no way this could keep me warm...weighed only a few ounces and was very "thin". Boy was I surprised. Weather dipped to about 28 degrees and I was never cold. Love it!!!

This coat was as described and a great option for packing in checked baggage for airplane travel. However, I found the zipper style in the long version impossible for me. The only way to zip the coat is to have the zipper trac straight, This required me to completely bend over to my knees to start the process - not a good idea for a 70+ year old person. I had a much older full length puffer coat that the zipper was only 2/3 of the length. This also left easier walking access. I will be returning this one - not a good design for me.

I got this as a Christmas gift. It's been fine as a “car coat” because it doesn't get too hot, but as soon as it hits 40 degrees outside this coat is not warm enough. Also, the hood doesn't keep my head/ears warm. It's too big and looks cartoonish….the wind just blows it open and it can't be adjusted. If it's not cold where you live, this coat will probably be fine, but it didn't cut it in Virginia.

I bought this coat for its packability but it's really just a great coat for cold weather and drizzle. It's hard to find a coat long enough to cover your bottom and down past to your knees. Really does well in the wind. Unfortunately my first order was defective and had to be returned, but they were great about that and matched my sale price for the replacement. Runs just a little small, I went up a size on reorder.

It's funny - I bought the short Wanderweight jacket and hated it. Color was ugly, fit was boxy and unbecoming. Then I noticed this coat on a great sale on cyber Monday and bought it. Holy cow it's perfect! Everything I dreamed of! Perfect fit, lovely color, very classy look - yay! I love wearing it for how it looks and feels but especially how unexpectedly warm it is! My new go-to! It was later that I realized these were the exact same garments, just in different lengths! Not sure how this happened but I'm glad I ended up with a favorite warm stylish classy comfortable winter coat!
