We bought this for my son when he was a month old and he's been playing with it since 3 months. He loves it! He bangs on it like crazy.. and it does keep his attention, or at least has up until this point (he's almost 9 months now). It says the alphabet out loud in english and spanish, and it counts to 3 while also displaying the letters in lights on top. Other than that, it pretty much just makes drumming noises with a few phrases thrown in. If you leave it on by accident, the slightest movement will set it off. It's not too hard to activate it so that it does keep the child's attention. And as for people saying it's not loud enough, I believe it is. If I can hear it going off in the living room from my bedroom at night(when no one is around, mind you)then it's plenty loud.

I bought this for my 6 month old daughter. It took her a couple days to get the hang of beating on it, but she loves it. It's great for us because we want her to learn Spanish, I just wish it did more than just the alphabet.

Got this for my daughter at 6 months, she thinks it's ok, but I have to play with for like 5 mins before she even thinks about playing with it, dosen't keep her interested more than 2 mins, and she's played with it a dozen or so times in a yr.

My daughter has had this toy since she was about 6 months old, She is now 19 months and I just now had to replace the batteries.. She loved this toy, not so much now that she is older. Now she likes to sit on it. But she used to bang on it all the time. And she would dance and clap. She liked to watch it light up. It has worn very well, She also liked to throw it. And it still works perfectly. I plan on saving it for the one I am pregnant with now. I think it was my daughters favorite toy. Its like brand new still, especially, seeing as how all of her other 'electronic' toys mess up in 2 months or less. The volume controls are nice, the high setting is loud, I keep it on the low setting.
