Recently built this to amuse our grandson for Halloween. Looked good on the box and appeared to go together reasonably well until on completion, I found that the lift could only be winched up but not down. Then we could only get the lift part way up the shaft before it jammed solid and on trying to retrieve it, the chain snapped. So disappointingly, we had to give up on getting the lift to work. Looking online, I then found that others had also had problems getting the lift to move up and down properly, with people referring to there being too tight a tolerance. Really pleased that we hadn't wasted any further money buying a motor. With some trepidation, wondering what our experience will be with the Carousel (10257) when we get around to building that!
This was a highly enjoyable build taking me somewhere between 8-10 hours to complete. It's a somewhat complex build and the 18+ recommended age range is justified. That said, I would think any Lego enthusiast from ages 14+ would stand a good chance of successfully completing it. I purchased the optional PoweredUp components and can now control the elevator via the app on my iPhone. These components aren't necessary as the elevator can be manually operated by way of a turn-crank on the back of the set but I would recommend owners of this set purchase the PoweredUp pieces as they add an additional level of enjoyment. But as noted, they aren't necessary. The set contains ten mini figures which is generous. An additional nice touch was that in the instruction manual, each artifact included in the house has a humorous write-up describing the item. This set is a welcome addition to my collection and I would recommend it to other Lego aficionados out there.
I picked this up at legoland Windsor a week ago. I was a little bit worried regarding the ride lift, but i was buying it for display, and wasn't too worried about the ride, however it works perfectly. The cart goes up knocks open the doors then plummets back down. Attaching the chain together was tough, and the chain needs to be really pulled to get it attach. And make sure you count the number of links, with all the links in place it looks like it won't join up once it's on the gears but it does, just need a bit of strength to join it and there should be tension in the chain. Love this set
I have built many lego kits and this was a joy to put together. The engineering and elements detail is fantastic and no stickers. It is also fun to setup and play with. I have the lift ride working perfectly and the history behind the wonderful no expense spared elements is a true credit to the designers. I have PTSD and building Lego kits is a wonderful way to spend a few moments. Static kits are nice though ones that are interactive are brilliant. Love all the gears, chains and motors. Maybe there should be a small ghost train ride to go along with it. I do not have enough room for the roller coaster kit.
